4 times is way too much even for hairballs. Pick him up and if he growls at you, he is sick, so get him to the vet. In the mean time put water in a syringe (without the needle, obviously) and force him to drink water, because he will become dehydrated. Do this every hour, but be prepared, he will fight with you.
The only way I can get force something down my cats throat is to sit down and (since I'm left-handed) clasp his paws with my right hand, wrapping my right forearm around his head. I use this "vise" of my forearm and my chest to squeeze open his mouth and shove it in. Oh yeah, he's gonna hate it but it has to be done.

The fact that your cat threw up 4 times in one day tells me the cat is ill. This is indeed not normal behavior for a cat.
If anything a cat might throw up once every two days a fur ball.
Please take you cat to the Vet

You need to get your kitty to the vet. Is the kitty running a fever or eating OK? What other symptoms?

my cat throws up all the time because she eats to fast, but if it's looking funny, then you should call your vet.
