Silica is the startch part of hair so eating veg such as onions, garlic, green leafy veg, carrots, cucumber, bell peppers and sprouted seeds.
Your kidneys play a huge role in hair healthy, the stronger the kidneys the better the hair so make sure you drink plenty of fluids i.e. water, avoid salt and eat foods from the following groups grains, beans, fish, legumes, herbs/teas, veg, fruit and you can take a supplemement of magnesium and also horsetail.

healthy diet of plenty of fresh fruit and veg.
Plenty of water daily...2 litres.
use a hair beauty treatment once a week and always keep it well conditioned.
have a trim every twelve weeks to get rid of any split ends.
Avoid over using tongs, heated rollers or straighteners.
maybe a special hair supplimentry pill from Boots chemist. look at there supplimentry health dept.
It also takes time and patience. Mine took 6 years to grow as long as it is now ( from a short bob to down my back)

Regular trimming - you don't have to have much off, but it will help new growth. Also, when you shampoo give your scalp a really good massage - this stimulates follicles and promotes growth.

If you are going for the "Rock Star" look you'll find your hair starts growing longer more quickly after about 3 months due to its own weight.

Vitamin D is supposed to aid hair growth. Get it from the sun and carrots (and I think oily fish too?).
Also brushing is supposed to stimulate the scalp and get those follicles working.
