Plain white vinegar would be better if you have it, but red wine vinegar should work just fine. I don't think I'd use the balsamic since it's thicker and sweeter. But that depends on what you're making.

Depends on the recipe.
A white one has no color.
Red has a diff flavor too.
A bit diff in taste too.
Use just vinegar. Not balsamic. That has a diff flavor.

PS. I think the point here is Vinegar is used to make it cook better. And add a flavor.
So use what you like as long as you like the flavor. It all depends on the recipe.

Good quality white and red vinegars are definitely interchangeble in a recipe.
Easy on the balsamic though, it may be too sweet.

Try it, see if you like it. The most important thing in a recipe is to make it like you like it. If that means changing an ingredient here or there, so be it.

I would say no. there are variations in these vinegars and will alter the taste of the finished product.
