On both occassions my dog was under control on a lead. The first time the other dog got away from its owners, charged across the road and attacked my dog. My dog suffered a deep bite to his leg. The second time was a long a footpath, the other dog was off the lead and again it rushed in to attack. This time my dog had the muscles in his chest ripped. I am almost afraid to take my dog out now in case I meet this other dog especially as I often have to walk him with my 2yr old son. I wondered what action I can take to ensure they keep their dog under control or muzzle it. The owners of the other dog seem to have a constant list of reasons as to why it is my fault - my dog is on the lead, my dog is not castrated etc I attend obedience and agility classes with my dog and he is never aggressive to any dogs there.

Do not listen to them by any means. Take them to court. They are to have their dog leashed as he is a danger to other dogs and even children if he bites.

They know they can be charged for this but refuse to keep their dog under control. You have vet bills as proof of the incident, do you have pictures as well? Have your vet write up a report about the injuries, go to the police and take it from there.

You haven't done anything wrong because you HAVE to keep your dog leashed when you take your pet out for a walk. They may throw a list of reasons at you why it is your fault, but it is all nonsense. Which dog is doing the attacking?

And that meaning it is their fault. If they know their dog attacks other dogs, then THEY should take responsibility and keep him leashed and muzzled.

You should report it to the police. How guilty will you be if next time it's your son that gets bitten.Don't make it a case of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. I bet it's not only your dog that has been bitten or attacked by this dog. Ask other dog owners in the area that you walk your dog if they have had any problems with this dog. That way you'll have more to go to the poilce with. The owner may have already been reported by some one else.

The owner sounds like an idiot. He shouldn't have to be told to muzzle his dog when out with it, he should do it knowing the dog is aggressive towards other dogs. He's got no respect for others or his dog, as if the dog bites a human it could possibly have to be put down not to mention the emotional and phsyical scaring to the human. It's only a matter of time before some one gets bitten trying to defend they're dog.

The owner of the other dog is also liable to pay you vet bills. When you report it ask the police about it, you may be able to go to the small claims court to get your money back from him.

I think you should have reported these past attacks to the police.
Although, if it happens again you will have the vets records of the attacks to back you up.
The other owner is clearly at fault for not having his dog under control especially if it is aggressive. Whether or not your dog has been castrated is no business of his & is no excuse for his dog not being controlled properly.
I would be very concerned about another attack when with my child. Once the dog is enraged there is no saying that it will not turn on you or the child. Try to get the names & addresses of any witnesses to future attacks & always report it to the police. This irresponsible owner cannot be allowed to continue in this behaviour which could ultimately lead to his dog being destroyed for an attack that is the fault of a bad owner.

Absolutely report the dogs owner to the police, and the council and call a dog warden too. I've had occasional experiences with dogs attacking mine and my response is to give the other dog a good slapping, which isn't necessarily correct, but if they're fighting it's all they'll understand. You need to get the upper hand in this situation. It's unlikely the dog would go for you so show some aggression back. And if you do get bitten, sue the owners! Sue them anyway for vets fees. It's their responsibility.

I'm sorry that's not a very politically correct response but one of my pet hates is aggressive dogs that aren't controlled.

My cat was attacked by two dogs who were not on the leader. I telephoned the RSPCA and the police, neither were able to do anything.

I then asked my vet for two copies of the bill, sent them off to the dogs owner and asked him to pay. He refused. I then lodged a case at the Small Claims Court. I won my case and was able to claim back the £260 for my vet bill.

I thought that if I wasn't able to get justice and behaviour issue, then I would hit him where it hurts, in his pocket. The feeling towards dogs attacking these days is far more heightened, however, this is mainly gauged against people rather than animals. I can't see the difference myself, if the dog attacks other dogs consistently, then it must be down to the owners to control it.

The only thing I can recommend is to take something with you to try to defend yourself and the dog.

Good luck with whatever you try and I hope your dog recovers well.

From experience on my local dog walking field, I can say that the Police are not interested in dog to dog attacks. They will only get involved if a dog has attacked a person. You can, however, report it to the local dog warden and tell them its happened twice. It's a shame because it will probably have changed your dog's temperament. I've been in the same position. The only way to recoup your vet bills, is to take out a civil action against the other dog owner. Sincerely hope your dog is OK.

Simple this one.it is against the law not to have your dog on a lead, it must be kept under control at all times and owners who allow their dogs to act in the manner you describe are liable to prosecution. In the area where I live you can be fined £50 for not having your dog under control or it fouls in a public place if you do not clean up after it, it isnt the Police that enforce this but the dog warden employed by the coucil. If it happens again tell them you informing the Police and they could face prosecution and just dont threaten go through with it.

Well something like that happened to my dog. My mom and my brother were walking my sheltie on one street. A crazy dog just came out and bit my dog in the side. Thankfully, the dog didn't have rabies. SO we called the animal police.

What I'm trying to say is, you should probably keep away from that house and if it happens again you should tell the animal police or tell the owner to keep the dog under control!

Go to the police and report it,the other dog should not be off the lead and should be wearing a muzzle,it could be your son next time. This bad owner should be paying your vet bills your dog did not ask to get bitten, take the owner through the small claims court i would, you could try talking to the R.S.P.C.A if you know wear this owner and the dog lives they will go and see them,by doing so you could be protecting your dog along with other dogs.Next time you go walking your dog take a walking stick with you to protect your dog it might make the other owner think twice before letting his dog behave so badly

First things first find out what your laws are where you live in regards to a leash law or having full control of your animal at all times...Second- Talk to the owner document each and every time you talk to the owner about this matter and keep it on file...Third- DO NOT take your child with you on these walks with you when you have your dog with you for that it could end up very very devistating the other dog could turn on you or your child there is DEFINITELY something wrong with the other dog...Fourth- Since the other dog has already attacked he will continue to do this take the owners that own the dog to COURT!!!! I know they are your neighbors BUT having neighbors like that who needs THEM!!! It is just a matter of time before that dog turns on YOU!!!! find out if your STATE allows a spray called MACE and if it does get a can of that and next time you walk your dog and the other dog comes to attack spray that dog in the eyes with the MACE it will not kill the dog BUT it will make him not be able to see for a while and then you and your dog can get AWAY... YOU need to PROTECT YOU AND YOUR DOG If there is anyway possible for the time being of not walking your dog I would stick to that plan for that there is DEFINITELY something WRONG with the other DOG!!!!The BEST thing to do is find out what your laws our in the state that you live in, keep your dog inside the house just bring him out quickly to do his thing, Get a hold of an attorney if you cant afford one you could do it on your own its not hard just make sure you have everything documented and your vet bills be prepared for court for that it seems like the owner to the other dog is not taking his responsibility of owning his dog and you and your family should not have to live in fear of walking out your front door you need to do this NOW DO NOT WAIT IF you wait and put this off it could end up to where someone loses their life and you cant go back and say I should have done this for that it will be too late act upon this NOW!!!!! The best of LUCK to YOU and YOUR FAMILY MAY GOD BE WITH YOUxoxoxoxoxo
