It really depends on the cat. Once the anaesthesia wears off, some cats will act completely normal some will be quieter for a few days. My cat was playing and acting exactly the same right after he was done.
Long term, your cat will be healthier, happier, safer. He will not have the need to try to wander off to mate, he will not spray to mark his territory for potential mates or other males. He will have a much longer life. Spaying/Neutering your pets is one of the best, most responsible things a pet owner can do, not only for the health of their own pet, but for the welfare of animals in general.

the cat will act the same as before the neutering. Right after the cat will sleep and be a little sore for a couple of days. Just be sure he eats and drinks. a little TLC he'll be fine.

The reasons to get a male cat neutered is that they become very aggressive towards other cats and extremely territorial. They literally spray their territory to mark it with their odor. It tends to linger with an obnoxious smell. Male cats become far less aggressive after being neutered. You also don't want a horny cat on your hands.

If you get your cat neutered when he is young you wont recognize much difference, but when he is older you will. An older male's attitude is partly because of his testosterone levels.
But they don't get depressed because they are neutered. It will save you from unwanted kittens, and unwanted spraying in your home.

My cats were freaked out of a couple of days but then they went back to normal. My vet said it will help them live longer.

Mine just layed around, and ate. You are supposed to make sure they dont jump up on anything and minimize their excercise while the stitches are healing. And now a year later, he is so fat and thats all he does is sleep and eat.

It will take a day or so to get over the anesthesia. Then he will be the same as before and love you like always...without the need to mate, yay!

He walks up to a female cat, tries his best pickup line: "Meow." She responds "Meow," which in Cat means "you have no balls." He then says "Meow," which means "sorry, it was just out of habit. I'll just nip off and have some 9-Lives now."
