just put him in underwear,,,, then remind him to use the bathroom,,,, make sure and have a childs size potty chair for him,,,,, when he has an accident (and expect them at first), just calmly say,, something like "oh you forgot to run to the potty",,,, lets go clean you up,,,, then give him a washcloth,,,, or tissue,,,, have him wipe then put on clean clothes,,,,, then go to the spot where he went,, if urine,,,, have towel and cleaner or water etc,,, have him rub the spot,,,,,,, (even if you go back later and clean or even if yes you might have to help him wipe a little ),,, the main thing is to make it all his job, responsibility etc,,,,,, your part is minimal,,,,,, when you ask him if he needs to potty,,,, just ask once,,, if he says no,,,,,,, say no more,,,,, he will get it, after a few days,,,,,, just do it calmly, no fussing, no reaction,,the main emphasis is him, that he is in control of this,,,,

A stubborn 3 yr old, I have one of those too! We've been "pee-pee" trained for months now (maybe even a year) but not poop. As far as pee pee, it was just repetition and lots and lots of praise and high fives (with a treat every now and then). You have to make him feel like he did the best thing ever! Like I said we're working on the poopie so this is what we do. At his normal bowel movement time (usually after dinner) we go sit on the potty for awhile, we read, play games...etc for about 15 minutes or until he has a bowel movement(whichever comes first). If he doesn't go, we get up. Sometimes I catch him later and I bring him to the potty to finish up, other times I don't. I have 4 kids and each was very different to potty train. This one happens to be my hardest!
With persistence I'm sure he will start using the potty....Good Luck!

I had the same problem w/my twins. Have you enticed him with cool underwear? We did the cool underwear thing, and a sticker page. Every time he went in the toilet, he picked out a sticker and put it on the page. When he accumulated 7 stickers, he got a prize. Then we started over. This lasted for about two weeks. Then we all forgot about the stickers and he used the toilet. I'm assuming your 3 yr old is ready, because if he's not ready, it will be a frustrating waste of time. Sounds like he might be ready though...Good luck!

Use the reward system. Make a list of thing you want him to do. Put the list on a dry erase board where you can change it daily. Make the potty training a daily reward. Then make going by himself the grand prize.

i think dr. phil has a book on potty training. have you tried a reward system? like every time he goes he gets a gold star and when he gets 10 gold stars he gets a prize or something? it worked for a friend.

Make a game out of it.
Find something he loves and reward him with it every time he uses the bathroom.
Good Luck.

hi with my little boy i put a ping pong ball in the toilet and told him to shoot. he thought it was great. had more trouble with poos. he would only do them in a nappy, so i made sit on the toilet with nappy on. we did this every time for about a week then i cut a hole in one and put it on him without telling him. when he went it fell thru and we celebrated feeding the toilet monster that night with a party with daddy. we had cake icecream and candles. never looked back.

I HAVE THE ANSWER!!!!
My son will be 3 in March. I have been trying off and on to potty train him since last April. He wasn't ready so I put it off for a while but my husband and I have been getting tired of changing dirty pull-ups so i've decided to give it another try. I CRACKED THE CODE! It finaly worked, I just had to wait for him and myself to be ready.
Pick a week when you don't have to go anywhere, STAY HOME! It will take that long cause your son needs to figure out the sensation. My son doesn't tell me he needs to go, I put him on the potty and tell him to wait for the pee pee to come out.
My son is like any other boy who likes cartoons so I put his portable potty on a towel in front of the tv and put on a video.
(I used a towel under the potty for spills, I had to change it just about everytime he went. Alot of laundry that week)

He watches alot of videos that week. But it was all worth it cause know he goes by himself. I still ask him every once in a while if he needs to go but he say's no everytime even if he needs to go. He sat and watched his video and peed in the potty. When he would get up and I knew that he wasn't done peeing I would tell him to sit on the potty and sometimes he said no and i would turn off th tv and then he sat back down on the potty so i would turn the tv back on. When he did go pee I went over board with happyness. We sang the potty song "Russel went pee pee on the potty, Russel went pee pee on the potty Horray!!!!" and we danced. He was so happy to see me happy that he wanted me to be happy again and again. I found that the same routine worked.
be prepared to have accidents but don't punish him for it just say "did you have an accident? Thats ok go sit on the potty and see if there's anymore pee pee that needs to come out."
OUR ROUTINE:
Pee pee on the potty
Then he got 2 chocolate chips and we dumped the pee in the BIG potty and he gets to flush the toilet and say's "bye bye pee pee" and washed our hands. then he got a sticker for washing his hands.

2 chocolated chips for pee
6 chocolate chips and a lolly pop for poo (cause it's special)
1 sticker for washing his hands.

After the first week he got board with the chocolate chip so I had to find a new reward. He gets gummy worms. and Chocolate brownie for poo's and a balloon cause it's rare that he'll go poo on the potty so we make it extra special.

The first couple of days give him alot of juice and milk, everytime he's finished his cup fill it up again. I did this with my son and he had to pee every 20min. That means the more he pee's the more times he get's that sensation and figures it out. I bought a timer at the dollar store to remind me it's been 20min and make sure he was sitting on the potty. I gave him alot for attention that week, lots of hugs and kiss and I told him "mommy is so happy, you make mommy so happy when you go pee on the potty, i'm so proud of you!" "Your a big boy now that you go pee on the potty" and we would call his aunt and tell her over the phone and she would respond with pure excitment. That made him happy!
I noticed the only time he would have an accident was when I wasn't paying attention to him!
My son was going pee by himself after the 6th day but don't get me wrong he still had many accidents but its a work in progress, and we are still working on going poo. And he wears a pull-up at night.
By the way we are on day 22. After about two weeks we decided to start using the BIG potty and it works. He goes by himself now and then wants us to come look at the pee so that we can reward him. He's so proud!
I hope this helps. A friend of mine used mini brownies as a treat and her son was trained in 2 days. I wish!!! but you never know it might work for you!
best of luck!!!
