This is common for cats with long fur. They may need food specified for hairballs, in order to help prevent throwing up. The cat may groom itself often, and that fur is not easily digested, so it comes back up and onto your carpet.
But it could also mean that the food your cat is eating, is not very good. Do not buy cheap brands in order to save money, because it is not very good on your pet's health.

Well, it's probably a long haired cat. So whenever it grooms it's fur it accidentally ends up ingesting a lot of it's own hair. You need to groom long haired cats a lot, So they don't Shed all over the place and cough up hairballs all the time. And even if it is a short haired cat ...you still need to groom it. So get a brush or something , and get to work :-)

My sister in law had the same problem. Brushing your cat will help. Daily, everyother day maybe. They also have hairball control food sold at most pet stores or the vet. Science Diet, Iams...one of those.

Cats throw up hairballs, they do that because the lick themselves to clean their fur.the best way that I've found to "lick" this problem,is to add alittle cooking oil to their food. Don't saturate it but just about a teaspoon full over the top of their food. that should help.

You should get her some special hairball food and brush her once a day. I brush my cat daily and she has only ever had one hairball.

chances are the cat is probebly just cleaning himself a little too much!
At walmart or any place that sells Cat Supplies you can buy a colored cream that you place on the cats paw.... its completely harmless but it tastes bad... Because of its bad taste the cat will not want to lick its paw to clean its head or w/e.... unless your cat is psychotic like mine and Actualy likes the taste.
ps.! If you get this rub it o to the fur dont let it sit there cause the cat will shake its paw attempting to get it off and chances are soon enough you will be cleaning it off a wall... ( My cat did this too)

You cant make it stop. All cats lick their hair to be clean. If they dont lick their hair they will die. So when they lick they eat some of it so they have to throw it up.
