the spear of longinus is a real spear. what is called the spear of longinus is clouded in mystery and may not be the actual spear that was used to stab jesus in the side.
currrent scientific evidence does show it to be of roman manufacture in the first century, but it has never been absolutely proven to be the actual spear used.
it has two middle-ages sheaths, as well as what may be an actual nail from the crucifixion inside it. the inner sheath is silver, the outer sheath is gold. during ww2, the nazi's claimed to have it in their possesion, and the american forces claimed they re-captured it near the end of ww2, but there are some claims that the one the americans found was a replica and that the ss troops managed to get it away, and is supposedly still in the possession of a current nazi remnant organization.

That would be the "Spear of Longinus" and it wasn't used to kill Jesus but was the one that he prodded Him with to check if He was, in fact, dead; before taking down the Body!
The "Spear of Longinus" was, in fact, an artefact treasured for it's mythical power that it bestowed upon the owner.
It was something, incidentally, that Hitler sent a lot of his men looking for!?!?
Like the Holy Grail, the Spear of Longinus are the archeologists' dream, today!?!?
