Hi all! I need some advice. I am not very good at hiding emotions especially things like hurt or anger and sometimes I wish I could. I see people around me who are calm and collected even if they're having a bad day. I want to be like that especially in social situations where I don't want people to know that I'm upset. Is there any way I can train myself to be like that? What should I focus on and most of all how do I control my facial expressions!?!

1) Engage in regular physical exercise - a fit body bears a healthy mind.
2) Practise meditation
3) Substitute your thoughts with pleasant ones whenever angry
4) Don't expect anything in general - you won't get hurt
5) DO NOT SUPPRESS YOUR EMOTIONS ALL THE TIME - YOU'D GET SICK IF YOU DON'T VENT THOSE OCCASIONALLY!

Yes you can train yourself, you need to always keep focused on nicer places and happier moments, so to create a sence of inner calm, then while you feel like speaking out, you can, you can say what you feel without hurting anyone.
Its far better to be open and honest, but with tact.
never try to hurt feelings, but also never put yourself last either, you have a right to speak, and a right to enjoy people and places etc.
So learn some really good techniques, and also learn new words, so to have many more selective words to use when trying to get your thought of the situation across without anger, have a good cup of chammomile and peppermint tea ( blend by using 1 of each tea bags).
Or by going to your destination a little earlier each time so not to be all keyed up, and not too rushed, have a glass of water or cup of tea, all set to go.
Then a few deep breathes, maybe a few more here and there , deep slow breaths, drop your shoulders to a nice loose comfy feel, and everytime you see red, picture blue sky or birds in tree, children playing, whatever you feel is a lovely distraction, settle down and later go to whoever has upset you and quietly explain why they effected you that way.
They then may ask what they can do next time they are around you, and you have then opened the door for good communication.
Good luck, also try smiling in the mirrow a bit more, , so you can keep a little humour in your heart and life.
hugs
