my cat is walking as if he is crouching, with his belly almost touching the floor. He doesn't do it all the time though, and seems to be able to run around as normal, then stops and does the weird walking thing, with his legs sort of sticking out with his bum in the air.He is still managing to jump on our bed and up the stairs as usual, but every movement he makes,he is doing his chirrupy miaow. He is alert, using his litter tray and eating. His eyes are really bright and he is still affectionate, and is not or has not vomited. My vet said when i called her, that it sounded like a knock or he has pulled a muscle and said to get him to try and settle down and keep him in one room and refrain from picking him up,but it is breaking my heart to see him this way.He is a house cat,so him being run over isn't a posibility. He is ten months old and has never done this before.I just wondered if any other cat owners had seen this in their cats before and wether just leting him rest will cure him.

Well, you did speak with your vet & I assume you described the problem in detail to her, and you say he can get onto the bed & even the stairs; it could be a pulled muscle, if it were anything extremely serious then he wouldn't and couldn't do that. It does sorta sound like your he's a she and she's in heat!

But if you don't trust the situation then by all means take him into the vet after all, even though it's Sunday, I'm sure there's an emergency clinic somewhere. I probably would, I'm usually a 'home doctor' for myself but I worry about my kitties a lot more!

Oh, and please give us an update when he's better in the 'additional comments'. So often people ask about sick kitties, and then never come back to post how they're doing! Good luck!

I have seen cats walk like that before it's almost like they are on the prowl is how I describe it, I would wait a couple of days and if you're still worried then get him an appt. at the vet just to make sure everything is in check....Good luck keeping him resting though I don't think I've every seen a kitty that young rest very much..........

This crouching thing he does seems interesting to me.When I read your question my first thought was that your cat was just going into pouncing position. But now i see that it could be something a little more serious.problem than that. You should look around for another vet. =]

You should give him love, he may be acting like this because he is afraid of something, do u have dogs, mice? anything may trigger your cat's sadness. Or if you think there is something further wrong, take your cat for a checkup at the vet, and ask the vet why he is doing this. Best of luck!

Sounds like your 'he' cat is a 'she' in heat. This is typical behavior for that condition. If the strange walking about did not seem purposeful I would suspect a high fever from some infection but that does not sound like what you described.

stop asking questions here and go directly to the CLOSEST vet!!!!!with his age and symptoms I would not mess around with "opinions" on yahoo..... you need a professional to check him out....go NOW!! he could have ingested something or broke something by getting in the way of a door/jumping wrong etc etc etc.... or ????????? you should have him looked at...espescially if your vet already said it was a "knock or something" over the phone once already..sounds like he needs to be physically touched by a vet not diagnosed over the phone!! there are vets open on saturday/sunday....

you should do what the vet said, because even if that breaks your heart, it would hurt you even more if he started to be in a lot of pain while walking all the time and got worse

He is playing! He is pretending that he is hunting that is part of the sound he is making. the crouching part is he is about to jump on something a pretend mouse, a bird? Get him a toy!Has he been neutered yet?
