want to show a women friend i appreciate her, but there is no real love connection. you think she will understand what i am doing?

I think the key is in how you ask. If you say, "we're such good friends, and neither of us has a Valentine this year, what do you say we have dinner together, on me?" Don't pick an overly romantic place, don't show up with flowers or candy, and you should be able to keep things low-key and non-romantic. Have fun. :)

Bad idea dude. Valentines is for couples, so if you are not feeling romantic about her, then anything other than Subway or Taco Bell on any day is a date.

ask her out for dinner if you are sure she knows there is nothing romantic between the two of you. its a nice way of saying thank you..
