St Andrew was crucified at Patras in Achaia on a cross in the form of an X. At the sight of the cross he is said to have joyfully greeted the instrument of his death. His body was taken to Constantinople in 357. Then in 1270 the relics were taken to Italy and deposited in the Catheral of Amalfi.

Andrew became the patron Saint of Scotland.
He was crucified but on a cross with two diagonal poles rather than the Crucifix that Jesus was crucified on. This is said to be the reason for the shape of the cross on the Scottish Saltire also known as the saint andrews cross.
Andrew is also the patron saint of Greece Russia and Romania.
