I have 4 or 5 swollen glands on the left side of my neck. 1 is in the normal place where you would get it if you had a throat infection, the others are just small ones down the side and there is 1 down near my collarbone as well. I have no other symptoms (feeling perfectly fine and bouncing with energy)... the lumps are slightly painful when I touch them and they are fairly moveable.

I am going to the doctor about this on Tuesday but I just wondered how likely it is that they are serious. I'm only just coming up for 20 if that makes any difference.

2 time cancer survivor here. Both times in the lymph nodes or glands.Biggest thig was the lumps were stationary, didnt move and didnt hurt.Very important to go to the doctor.I would bet it is just an infection. If you have a good appetite and good energy your doing good.Take care, dont worry too much and stop touching and checking those nodes while they hurt.

Now i wouldnt worry about this too much. Swollen glands and lymphs was always my weak spot. Mainly because i never listen to my mom to wear a hat and a scarf when its cold outside.
When it comes to cancer question........it is one of those questions that none of us will be able to answer to you unless someone who is currently making studies on this subject is answer your question. Cancer is always a tricky one that is why half of the time we dont even know we have it until its almost too late or late period. Usually from what i know if it hurts and swalloen.....its not a cancer just for a simple fact that it is too of a good sign....cancer as i said earlier like an STD most of the time wont show any signs....

It seems highly unlikley that these lumps are cancerous, it is probably a group of cists which are in themselves infecous which would explain why there are so many. However it is a very good idea to go see a doctor to make sure as its best checking these things out with a specialist. I wish you the best of luck :)

Some of them can be caused by a virus an be swollen glands. I had some once and read that the one that you really need to be concerned about is if it is on your neck at the base of your collar bone. I hope all is ok for you good luck.

well done for going to the docs,
too many people ignore things that they are scared of and most of the time they aren't as bad as they think.

as the lumps are painful it is more likely that they are cysts or something similar but not cancerous.

i had a friend who had 3 huge lumps on her neck and they were all benign cysts.

i wonder whether u have lumps anywhere else!!
If not , then these lumps won't be much of a problem.
however, a fine needle aspiration cytology is advisable.it implies that a small amount of fluid is aspirated from that lump, to know the nature of the lump. it will help to reach us to the diagnosis of that swelling. The chances that it will be cancerous are very less.
So rest assured,See your doc and wait for your reports

i doubt its cancer from the way you described it, there are quite a few lymphnodes around your collarbone that normally swell up when you have an infection but go see the doctor anytime you have a question like that nobody can tell you reliably over the internet

Only your doctor can give you the answer to that question. Chances are you are 100% fine, but it is always better to check and be sure! You are doing the right thing. Good luck!
