This is for a possible new job. Should I go to a skills lab at a local school (also free), get a tutorial CD's from library and/or get Dummies books? Are the books worth it for these programs?

Since it is for a potential job, I would recommend the skills lab, assuming that they have tutorial programs available. Second choice, or along with the skills lab, would be the tutorial CD's from the library. I love books, and learn well from books, better than most people, but have found that for reliably learning computer software programs, hands on face to face teaching and video/CD tutorials are best. You might still want to have a good easy-reference book onhand though, if you get the job!
