Nope. I would only marry a foreigner because I'd fallen in love with him. To do otherwise wouldn't just be selling my country's citizenship short, it would be to sell my heart short.

No I wouldn't , and I am married to a foreigner for 41 years, but I married this woman in her country not mine and I was living there at the time as an American. Don't you think that maybe this makes a mockery of our service men/women in Iraq. I would say stand up and be an American. There is always a reason that men want to marry women to become Americans and not have to worry about the proper way of coming to America

Well Antonio, to begin with, marriage is a legal mess here in the US. There would also be the problems associated with faking the marriage for the INS. There would be cultural issues, and other things that would make such an arrangement uncomfortable.

The first thing that comes to my mind is -- "What is in it for me?" Since the foreigner would more than likely not have an income that would equal mine, and would take up residence in my household.

If I am going to marry someone for any other reason other than to have a long term relationship, I am going to marry up (a very wealthy man), not down. So unless the foreigner is very rich, and can provide me with a life of luxury while we wait on his citizenship papers, and afterwards I get a clean divorce where I take half of his assets and can get spousal support -- the answer is ----No.

i will tell you this.. it is hard to do such things.. i know it is done.. but its hard. i married a foreigner.. and when we went the the ins crap they put you thru it was a mess.. i had to show proof of our living together having bills together and even family pictures of him and my whole family get togethers. we didnt marry for papers he was here on student visa and had 3 years left on it. it was crazy and if people do it for money.. they will have to do some serious work for it.. that ins building is a huge waste of time.. you sit there for hours.. waiting for an appointment that has long passed. they stripped him down and searched him because he had his cell phone ring while he was in there.. and the officers saw it was his country area code on there.. and called.. this was post 9-11 and it was a mess. all because he is arab. DRAMA!! now if bringing our daughter was not proof enough that it wasnt arranged.. what would be proof?

No. Marrying a foreign for the sole purpose of obtaining the permanent residency is illegal.

i did. my good friend had a problem of being a resident of country and a citizen of another. the us wouldn't grant him a visa because they would have to list both countries as country of origin which creates a problem if he had to be deported. so he asked me if i would marry him just long enough for his employer to step in and ask that the us government issue him a work visa. i did and now he has a very successful career with disney and i believe he and his fiance (we have since nullified our marriage) are expecting their first child. and he's moving back to europe.

I would not. The INS is watching this very closely since 9/11. You can get a stiff sentence and fine and the other person would be deported.
