It shows that if we ever become lost, and our faith is weak, God not only has not forgot us, but HE WILL RUN TO US. He wants us back probably even more than we want to be back with Him.

Agree?

I think it is sensational.

God is waiting for us to see the Light!
God is wanting us to succeed!
God is wanting us to be happy!
God is wanting us to be well!
God sees us as whole, well, good, wonderful
and is always forgiving!

Actually, the first son who left and came back is the set-up story for the real action, which is about the son who stayed and became embittered at the treatment the returning son received. We were talking about another parable, the 2 sons who were asked to do chores. One said he would do it and didn't; the other said he wouldn't do it but did it anyway. In middle eastern thought, the worse evil was the one who said he wouldn't do it because of his disrespectful attitude toward his father. In the West, we would approve of that same son, as so did the listeners in the text.

But who speaks for the decent son, who remained true and faithful, who did not go a-whoring and squadered the inheritance?

He stayed and helped and he kind of gets the back of the hand in all this. Not even a simple acknowledgement for being steadfast and dedicated?
