Many Charismatic believers speak in tongues.
I have been to churches where they do, and where people interpret tongues into prophecy.
NO I am not talking about churches that play with snakes, I think that is tempting God myself. I would probably RUN from a church where they did that. LoL

NOTE:
The Bible states that when the group in the Upper Room spoke in tongues, people thought they were DRUNK! This does not incinuate a language to me, it incinuates jibberish like a drunk speaks when under the influence of alcohol. This is ALSO the reason the Bible calls the Holy Ghost the NEW WINE, when you are under the influence of the Holy Ghost & speaking in tongues? You are literally drunk on the Spirit, and this also incinuates to me that it still is a jibberish language to the speaker and often the hearer, unless the Spirit allows them to hear it in their own tongue [language]. The reason I KNOW it is for TODAY, is that the Bible tells us in the latter days He will pour our His Spirit upon all flesh. His Holy Spirit "Called the Holy Ghost in the Bible", is what speaks in tongues THROUGH our mouths. It is not a learned thing, it somply comes when we allow the Holy Ghost to have FULL control over our mouths, bodies & minds.

Yes, I believe that the true gift of tongues still exists in the Church today. I also believe there are many who, either through honest error or dishonesty, are not speaking in tongues. I believe I've witnessed all of these.

Primarily, I believe in this gift because Scripture tells me it exists. I believe a thourough exegetical analysis shows this gift did not cease at any particular time in history.

I think you're right about the snakes part; it shows an incorrect understanding of Mark 16. I do not speak in tongues, but I have dreamt in tongues on several occasions. When I awoke, I remembered some of the words and wrote them down. They were Hebrew and I was apparently praying to God. These experiences lead me to begin studying the Bible from a Messianic Jewish perspective and I have derived great peace from it.

Speaking in tongues is one of the gifts of the spirit.
It is also, in my opinion, one of the most misused and abused gifts there is.
Speaking in tongues was as the Spirit gave utterance for the lifting up of the believers present. So often today it seems to be used to attempt to show how Holy the Preacher is.
I am a Christian Preacher, writer and Evangelist, I have seen the power of the Holy Spirit and have witnessed true speaking in tongues on several occasions.

I've been in several ceremonies where people allegedly spoke in tongues and it was always a fraud. I can't believe honest, God-loving people would do that.

The gift of tongues has a specific purpose: to break the language barrier between people for no other purpose than to spread the news of Jesus' resurrection.

(I believe the gift COULD exist, but to date I've never seen it.)

None of the gifts are for self-service.

(By the way, how does someone become an "ordained Bible scholar"? Is that an actual job title?)

The presents of the Holy Spirit are different. speaking in tongues is between the least of those presents. no longer all people could have an identical presents--they're different. speaking in tongues change into meant to achieve those who talk different languages in order to convey them the Gospel. speaking in a "heavenly" tongue does no more effective healthful that distinct classification...and change into no longer manifested till a even as later even as human beings were reported as making the speaking in tongues a substantial present. There are presents that are in part, and not in any respect everlasting--in different words, they are going to pass away and the choose for them will be no more effective. it really is it appears that evidently stated in numerous sections of the hot testomony. once all of us get to heaven, prophecies and tongue speaking will be redundant. all people will understand the language of Heaven...and the prophecies will all were fulfilled when we are again on the hot and recreated Earth playing our lives worshiping God, and getting to understand about reality and actual technology of the Universe. in case your tongue speaking might want to be utilized by potential of God to convey those who do not understand the Gospel into the fold of religious Israel...to be grafted into the actual Vine...then you definately can evaluate your present to be from the Holy Spirit. those circumstances, it really is uncomplicated to be deceived by potential of alternative spirits which aren't to any extent further the Holy Spirit...try the spirit this is on your existence...does it keep the Commandments of God and grant you with the religion and Testimony of Jesus?

Tongues as it is in the Bible does not exist today. If anyone claims it does, then they only have to produce it to prove their point. The "stuff" that Charismatics claim is tongues has no similarities to what they did in the Bible, and again to those who say it does, I challange them to list just one simlarity between what happened at Pentacost and what they are doing today. I personally encourage people to believe the Bible and trust what God says and not what anyone experiences or claims to experience. Remember the Holy spirit is a spirit of self control, and yet these people claim that when the spirit comes on them they lose control over themselves. What ever spirit it is it is not the Spirit of God.

Edit: Again I challange any Christian to list one place in the Bible where tongues is ever called a gift (charisma)

Everyone uses thier tongues to communicate, it is what makes us different from the animals. Anyone can babble out unintelligable sounds, my sister and I used to do that when we would pretend to speak in a foriegn language when we were kids. The Bible says, if you speak in tongues, supply a translator so the others can be enlightened, otherwise it is useless.

If you read the account of the day of Pentecost you will find that when they spoke in tongues it meant other languages. When they spoke each heard in their own tongue or language.

The speaking in tongues teaching originate in Paul and you need to read that carefully to see if you believe that he is talking about the modern version of speaking in tongues.

Yes I believe in speaking in tongues for those moved to do so. Only they know what they are saying so I certainly don't think of it as Prophecy. I've never done it nor has anyone that I'm aware of in the churches I've gone to. I attend church regularly and Baptist as far as I know don't speak in tongues.
