This is something that just started a few days ago. He is NOT jealous because he loves his baby sister. He is always playing with her, helping me with her, kissing and hugging her, telling her that he loves her. I have tried hiding her extra bottles and pacifiers but he ends up finding them or taking them off of her. I could see it being jealousy only if it started from the get go, but this is just recent!! I dont know what else to do besides telling him no and taking it off of him and saying, "Big boys dont use these!!"

Place "tabasco sauce on the pacifier when the baby isnt expected to use it.
or better still place tabasco sauce on a pacifier that only the 6 yr old will get to
the "HOT" effect will scare him..and whenever he reaches for it just yell........ "HOT"
if he needs to know "why its hot...?? just lie
and say "baby girls" need hot pacifer to help make sure they stay girls as they grow

They make a liquid that is designed to help stop kids from sucking their fingers. It is a far better solution to tobasco sauce. Coat the nipple with this when the baby wont or cant get to it. The six year old will be left with a harmless but rather foul taste in his mouth. Obviously he will want a drink to try and get rid of the taste. Eaach time getting the sippy cup, soon enough he will just want the sippy cup.

It sounds like he's jealous of the baby. It's normal, and many older children (step or not) revert to infantile behavior when a new one is born. Just make sure you give him plenty of attention, and emphasize the fun of being a "big brother" and a "big boy."

wean him of it . . . let him have it for say 5minutes during his favourite tv show, or bedtime story. When five mins is up, he has to stop, gradually decrease this time.
NB - You just stop 6year olds from thumb-sucking do you? Maybe he is feeling insecure, or maybe a little left out and jealous about the baby? - Maybe he is trying to gain some attention by pretending to be smaller than he is?

Awww bless, sounds like the poor wee soul's feeling left out. Maybe spend some quality time with him on his own, that should do the trick. Or maybe get him more involved with his sister, let him read her a bedtime story or help with her bath so he feels special and important too.

Uhm. Excuse me, we are talking about a 6 year old aren't we? Who runs your household? This isn't a fun game, take it away and discipline him. Stand in the corner, spanking, sent to room I can go on. Some of the answers here are ridiculous, ween him off of it. Please give me a break. A quick swat on the bottom and a trip to stand in time out will do the trick.

You have to consistently take it away and tell him he's a big boy. Point ot the big boy things gets to do that your daughter does not. If need be, there should be consequences for it. Take away a toy each time he does it. It's not appropriate behavior.

send him to school with them. he'll be laughed at so hard he'll want to stop.
treat him like the baby he wants to be treated like.
tell him that's like licking his sisters drool. yuk!
start treating him like a baby. change his diaper, don't let him walk around (babies can't walk), put him in the bouncy seat or the walker. make it so difficult for him to be a baby that he understands that being a big boy is a good thing.

Its normal. He wants to be a baby to get yours and dads attention.
Give him a little more one on one time.
