with push ups u are using all your weight in your arm so if u are 170 lbs u are lifting 170lbs and that is alot, so if u wont to do push ups but not lift your weight u can get up in push up preveshion but drop your knees so u can lift3/4 of your weight tell u build arm museles.
with sit ups u are using your abs, not your arm musels when u do sit ups/ crunches sit on the ground and put your hands behind your head and use your abs to pull your head you half way up then go back down. dont go all the way up. becuse u pass your limt and it dousn't work.
good luck and keep up with working out

Some people find sit ups harder than push ups.
In your case it may because you lack upper body strength

Because your ab muscles are stronger than your chest muscles...it's not the same for everyone. Keep working on both exercises...in fact, I would recommend crunches over sit-ups (see link below). Push-ups will get easier.

Because your arm muscles aren't as strong as your abs and back muscles which are used to supporting more weight and stress all day. It's also harder to control a falling weight (your body) than one you're pulling up.

because your ab musles don't do as much work as your arms , you are used to sitting up because you do it every day , when you do pushups you use more force and it is your body weight pushing you down , there is no weight on you when ur doing situps .....

Because we are lifting all of our weight with our arms. While doing sit-ups we are only lifting a portion of our weight.

if i had to guess (and i totally am) i would say because you use your abdominal muscles more often thruout the day (even when you don't realize it) and you tend not to use your arms in the same manner that you use them for pushups.
