I'm thinking about buying a used 10 meter transceiver and would like advice regarding which rigs to avoid and which rigs to look for. I'm particularly interesed in rigs that are capable of CW transmission. If they have CW reception filters, so much the better. Of course, if they have capabilites on other bands, thats acceptable. I'm asking for info on 10 meter only rigs because I assume rigs with restricted capabilities will be less expensive. 73

As an ex-ham I can only suggest Yaesu, Icom and Kenwood gear. There is a lot of stuff from the 1980s with quite good performance and features made by these three and others. Icom used to be considered the best of the lot but was always a bit more expensive. Virtually all HF rigs had some CW capability, I still have a VHF set from 1981 that can do CW , AMTOR and packet radio etc. You should be able to get a really good rig for a couple of hundred at most if you don't mind something 10-20 years old. Then of course you can probably convert a CB.
