Sin meaning unconsciousness, not knowing. Being in the light, seeing clearly. Those who don't believe in me shall die in their sins, those who do shall have eternal life. If we accept the spirit of christ in us, won't He lead us to immortality? Otherwise we will just grow old, and die? Doesn't this seem like the real meaning? instead of justifying these words with mental gymnastics..like believe in Him, that he died for our sins and we will be saved. It may be a bit far-fetched.
When there's a crime, police will say that the simplest explanation is always the right one...

Well, and this question goes out to corezink especially, have you met the spirit of Christ, or God, in person? Have you had a personal experience of this?

The simplest explanation is not ALWAYS the right one, but that is usually the way to bet. In this case, the simplest explanation is that Jesus meant exactly what he said. Any other view involves mental gyrations to explain away the things he did. You can try to convince yourself that he hypnotized the masses in order to perform his miracles, but it just won't wash. He is the Son of God, and the only way into heaven is to accept him as your personal savior. Some of your other respondents have described God as evil or sadistic. If that was the case, would he have provided such an easy way to atone for a lifetime of sin in order to escape an eternity in hell? Simply ask Jesus into your heart, and you're saved. That's all there is to it.

Interestingly Mitra the sun God of Iran ( mythraism adopted by the Romans) said this 800 years before Jesus Christ was on the earth. He also claimed he was the Saviour of mankind
Christianity stole most of the Mythrian fables and rhetoric and adapted their own God, prophets and Saints to fit the stories.
T
he Roman Soldiers were Mythrians even in the time of Jesus Christ, they built temples to Mitra and slaughtered bulls for good fortune in battle ( like slaughter of lamb by jews and christians).
St Peters Basilica in Rome is built over the top of one of the biggest Mythrias( still intact in the basement) as are many other Catholic cathedrals and churches throughot Greece Italy, England, France and other regions of Europe where Romans had power.

What He said was, "I AM the way, the truth and the life." He is reality. Why theorize? Why not seek? I mean seek spiritually, because that's where He is found. You can imagine an infinite number of permutations and theories, but if you just go to God and ask Him to reveal Himself to you spiritually, He will. Ask and you will receive. Seek and you will find. Knock and it shall be opened up to you.
Shelty K: There is no evidence for the similarities between Mithra and Jesus prior to the 3rd century A.D. And those are spotty at best. But the prophecies that foreshadow the "mysteries" are found in ancient Jewish writings from over 1,000 years B.C. Also the Christian writings that detail the events allegedly paralleled by Mithraism are easily traced to the 1st century A.D. Mithra was known in pre-Christian times, but the Roman version is found in manuscripts no earlier than the 13th century A.D. Why assume their authenticity to be more valid than much older writings?

Jesus was God manifest in the flesh. He had God's nature and man's nature. He led by example. His Godly nature helped Him overcome the sins of the flesh. He was tempted in every way, as we are, and yet He remained sinless to become the perfect sacrifice for our sins. He died on the Cross and Rose Again 3 days later to overcome death and hell!!
And we can have that overcoming ability also. He will give us His Spirit to help us overcome sin in our lives. We get that by following what is written in Acts 2:38. God will forgive all of our sins by baptism by immersion in His Name and give us the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in an unknown language! Jesus taught it, St. John 3:5, and Peter preached it on the Day of Pentecost.
With His Spirit, we can then have a close personal relationship with the Creator. That's what He desires more than anything in the universe!!

Little boy, you have a lot to learn. Ignorance is no excuse for non belief. You have been enlightened by the word and you have rejected it. That's your business. Why do you feel you need to make silly statements of why you think God isn't God. Where you get your logic is totally unknown because there is no logic to your statements. You have a brain, try using it. You think not believing is being an individual and no question, it's much easier than believing. This world is just a very short trail period for we humans and to see who is capable of truth and logic. You reject both. All I can do is pray for you and hope that some day you will understand God's perfect way. I don't question for a moment that not believing is much easier than believing. By taking the easy way out, your ending up, way out. I feel sorry for you.

we must grow old and die, thats why earth is able to spin and move around in the solar system, there is no such thing as immortallity, if that happens our spirits will be stuck and cannot cycle through the lifestream (if that happens heaven and hell would run out of buisness!) and thus cannot give life to the new born child and other creatures. and also, war is never ending, if we kill ourselves, earth would be nothing but dust and death.

Jesus said what he meant and meant what he said. He is the way, the truth, and the light and no one comes to the Father except by him.
That is the simplest explanation and it is the right one.

You forgot the most important part of the passage:
"No one comes to the Father except by me."
(I hate to spoil your question, but it's pretty clear that Jesus was making a much bigger claim than you think.)

Nope - He said exactly what He meant - there is only one way to be reconciled to God, through Christ Jesus.
