We dated for 6 months, he broke up saying "I don't love you no more" but gives me this silly hope with his "we don't know what the future holds" and his "I love you so".(yeah, in spite of all)..

Well, we're bestest friends before our relationship. I'm soo not over him, we're as close as before and I still hope he'll come back to me. But, I value our friendship more than anything. And so does he...I can't lose him, not as a friend...

staying best friends is possible. I have a very good relationship with my ex.
BUT it needed time. We haven't met each other until we both were over it. It doesnt work if one of you is not over the strong feelings you used to share.

time will help. have patience and it will work out fine.

He just can't make his mind up ,can he?
What you need to do here is give it time and stay in contact. But you also need to think about self preservation .Don't fully commit to him any longer unless and until you are absolutely convinced he is doing the same. That way you keep him as a friend but make sure your whole life does not revolve around him.See other friends and make sure he knows that he is not the 'be all and end all' of your life. That way his own feeling of self importance will be lessened and he will not be the one calling all the shots.
Good Luck

If he is really a friend, you will not lose him. If he is just all words, then don't shed any tears over him.
