The best thing to do is to wipe out half the people on the planet. Unless some natural plague comes along soon then this might have to be done by a government, probably by spreading some biological agent that can be released over crowded population areas like India and China and that will take out almost the entire population. Two to three billion people need to be made to simply cease to exist.
The only way to really save the environment is to eliminate the cause of the problems, and that is an excess people. Any other ideas are just lip service that avoid the real issue.
The herd must be thinned. Trees are not the answer. During its lifetime a tree will absorb carbon dioxide, but when the tree dies and decomposes that same carbon dioxide is released back into the air again so the net effect is zero.

The first thing that we need to do is open a dialog about current issues that we face in the environment. This question is a good example. Some of the answers are not. Second we need to come up with realistic and attainable goals. Reduce Reuse and Recycle goals, energy production goals, and litter prevention goals. The "saving" of our environment may not be possible in our lifetime but with taking the steps now future generations will be well on the way to having a better place to live.

To save our environment, we should:
1. Recycle aluminum, glass, paper, and plastic products.
2. Clean up ALL of the oceans in the world.
3. Do not pollute in parks, oceans, and other public places.
4. Prevent Global Warming.

Right on for thinking about our enviornment! I have also posted 4 things about global warming. You can do a lot of things, actually. Plant trees, turn off lights when natural light is coming in, read instead of watching TV, and get other people involved. I am happy you are thinking about our enviornment, as it is a big issue. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise like it's not going to help. It will. We have to get together and do it. If everyone does something to help, global warming will very very very slowly but surely start to reverse itself. Good luck and keep at it!

One person can't really do a whole lot, so most of the world needs to be on board and willing to help in the first place. I think our biggest problems are our gas emissions and we waste a lot and pollute (I'm talking about the wealthier countries here). So somehow we have to stop driving cars, throwing things away in outside garbage cans, make sure we keep our yard clean. That's about the best one person can do, and that's a lot for one person.

Immediately set a 5 year timeline to switch to cleaner burning fuels, alternative energy sources, and take over Exxon/Mobil and other companies that are creating environmental problems, global warming, etc.
