The proverb is "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush". Actually a bird you have firmly in your hand may be worth a whole lot more than two in the bush that you may never catch,. Story:just watch " Deal or No Deal" any night that it's on. People, due to greed, would sometimes give up a $100,000 sure offer to pursuit a $1,000,000 prize that's illusive only to end up with neither.

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a
roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if
anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the
king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by
and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the
King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did
anything about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of
vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the
peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the
stone to the side of the road. After much pushing
and straining, he finally succeeded. After the
peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed
a purse lying in the road where the boulder had
been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note
from the King indicating that the gold was for the
person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The
peasant learned what many of us never understand!

Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve
our condition.

Make a proverb to fit the story!

Ther was once a very rich king, who was unhappy. All his courtiers tried to make him smile, but none succeeded. Then a wise man said to him, "Walk in the shoes of a happy man for a day."
Then the king said to his chancellor, " Go out into the kingdom, find the happiest man, and give him a bag of gold for his shoes."
The chancellor travelled all over the kingdom for a month, and then came back.
The king said, Have you found the happiest man in the kingdom?"
The chancellor replied, "I have, your highness, but, alas, the man possesses no shoes!"

"The Parable of the Good Samaritan" - a story of how we can be a "brother" to everyone no matter what race or creed he belongs to. Read on, the story is a good proverb in itself.

The Parable of the Good Samaritan
Luke 10:30-37
And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"
And He said to him, "What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?"
And he answered and said, "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself."
And He said to him, "You have answered correctly; Do this and you will live."
But wishing to justify himself, he said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"

And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
