Christians have The Bible and many hostorical documents to justify their faith. What has and is happening in the world is as foretold. The majority of atheists rubbish faith rudely, but not because they have evaluated the relevant material in any depth. So how did they reach their conclusions and why so forceful on the basis of so little knowledge?

Who has "little knowledge"?

Rude little person!

I have probably read the Bible more thoroughly than you.

And shouldn't you be in Church?

The bible as a historical document? Come on, man, I believe in God, but give me a break. Religious texts are not historical documents. Athiests base their conclusion on the fact that there is no physical proof of the existence of God. That does not mean that there is no God, of course, but you must admit that there is no way to actually PROVE the existence of God. It is something you must take on faith. So just accept the fact that you have faith in the existence of God, and they do not. The fact that an athiest does not believe in God should not bother you, as a believer, just as it does not bother me that people such as yourself may have misguided beliefs or opinions. A truly spiritual person would realize that not all people are spiritual people, and simply accept that fact without conflict.

Oh, and by the way, my own personal belief is that much of the bible was written in metaphorical terms... many of the stories were never meant to be interpreted literally, as so many Christians do. Remember that the bible was written a long time ago; it is a compilation of multiple texts, all written by different people at different times in history, and none of those texts were written in English... thus, these texts have all been interpreted many times over, and also I believe, misinterpreted several times over as well. What is happening in the world today is no different than what has been happening to the world ever since human beings began to put our filthy footprints all over it. We are killing each other in the names of gods, we are poisoning ourselves and our planet, sinning, allowing ourselves to be corrupted by hatred and greed, and slowly but surely bringing about our own eventual demise. Even an athiest will tell you that the human species' time on this planet is quite limited. We do not need the work of devils to bring about the apocalypse and end of times. We do most of the devil's work ourselves.

On that note, you do have a nice day now. Try not to judge so quickly. Not everyone is capable of putting faith into something they cannot see, hear, taste, touch, or smell. It is not their fault, and it is not your place to tell them they are wrong for not seeing what they do not see.

:-)

I believe in whatever I see to be true and no religion has really backed anything up to me. Science has explained alot of these so called miracles in the bible. Why is it that christians and other religions feel the need to ram thier faith down other peoples throats and riducule those who choose not to believe.

Give me proof and I will consider it but so far nothing. How can the bible be believed when it has been changed so many times??? I don't mean to offend as this is just my opinion. Also I have trouble believing the priests when some don't follow their own teachings. More war is caused over religion so how can it be a good thing??? My mind is open for enlightenment if you can educate me as to why I should have faith but until then I am happy in my own little world where I am god

My point is backed up by the thumbs down... Don't judge me

Little knowledge?? SCIENTIFIC FACT is our knowledge, not a bunch of words! I'm sure you can justify your faith to yourself and I wouldn't take anything away from that, but I'm not being rude if I tell you I don't believe in god. I've been on this planet for 40 years and made a conscious, informed and educated decision based on my beliefs. Why are you so forceful on the basis of so little proof?

The plain fact is that those who rely on a belief system in an imaginary entity to be able to cope with the reality of life are living a fantasy life.
Most civilised and educated people begin to realise the folly of it all at about the age of 12 and maybe state their atheism out loud by 15.
How can you boldly state that we atheists have not evaluated the bible, the qoran and any so-called historical documents when you have clearly no idea at all of what we have done or not done.
We are not 'forceful'. We do not send missionaries all over to push religion as you do. We do not send people to call at your house at inconvenient times to pass on our message as you do. We do not hold mass meetings to reinforce our beliefs (or lack of) on a very regular basis as you do. We do not indoctrinate our children into following our lifestyle as you do (bear in mind that I am using 'you' in a general sense).
Therefore, your 'question' has no validity.
At no time has anyone provided enough evidence to even suggest that there might be a grain of truth in your claims. The bible (also read qoran) was written by deluded men and not by any paranormal father-figure.
All through the history of mankind, he has needed there to be a protective father-figure who would help him to survive in a world that he did not understand.
Zeus and all his merry band were Top Of The Pops some time ago, as was Thor and Ra. All dumped now but were solid belief systems while they lasted. This replacement god will eventually fade out of the lives of just about everyone. Just give it time. Give the muslims a little extra time.
Atheism is the only logical lifestyle choice. Try embracing reality and leave gods to fade away as do belief in Santa, etc, as one amasses education and a great deal of common sense?
Do read the lyrics of John Lennon's "Imagine' and be advised that he was murdered by a deluded Born-Again Christian.

I must say that I am surprised at how much anger and venom this subject attracts. I do not believe in 'God' in any organised religion sense, but that doesn't mean I am an atheist. Like many people I am an agnostic, but unlike many of those people, I know the difference!

The fact is that there cannot be proof of a faith any more than their can be proof of any belief, or lack of one. The two positions cancel each other out by virtue of their very nature. Though as I say...I am baffled as to why this should be so violently controversial!

You are really rather rude and obnoxious.

The majority of the population of the world do not believe in Christianity. The majority don't believe in any one god. Atheists just go one step further and don't believe in any god.

As to the issue of knowledge - atheists tend to base their stance on logic and reason. Christians and other theists do not have any knowledge - they have faith. The two are very different.

The majority of atheists don't rubbish faith rudely. I'd love to see you try to support that silly supposition. However, I'm sure the majority of atheists who respond to this will quite rightly rubbish your arguments rudely - and if you don't like that, maybe you should learn to treat others as you'd like to be treated yourself.

The conclusion reached by atheist's is - that faith requires no evidence for a claim. In addition, when Christian's accept such claims, it is irrational.

Wel, thank you for lumping all of us atheists in one big lump. i think you will find that most of us are happy just plod along and mind our own business where other peoples religions are concerned, we do not suscribe to it, but we respect that it bring a huge amount of people comfort and strength and so is a good thing in that regard.
However, I have yet to try and convince a Christian or any faith holder, that God does not exsist, but when I mention that I happen to not believe, after the shock and look of disgust has worn off their faces they spend the rest of the time trying to argue with me and prove me wrong, and get really annoyed when I say I don't care, you believe what you want, I won't believe what I want. They take it very badly indeed, but should show respect for my beliefs, or lack of them, like they assume they have the right to get such respect from me, but give it back to an atheist? No way!
Double standards indeed.

Just for the record: I was raised in the Catholic church, and went to Catholic school. I spent 5 years studying other faiths, and reading through the bible-- twice. My conclusion was: No gods. None. And the "historical documents" you speak of were just rehashes of bible stories, from what I found. My "forceful" non-belief is based on a lot of research, and a lot of interviewing of various religious folks, a lot of self-doubt and self-examination. So don't dismiss us all so blithely. We didn't all just wake up one day and say "There is no god," and go get coffee. It was a journey for me, and I dare say for many others as well. Only bible-thumpers come to such simplistic conclusions.
