I'm no doctor. I used to wear my contacts for weeks at a time without taking them out. Your eyes get dried out and start to get scratched. Eye infections are very common for people who wear their contacts for too long. I had eye infection usually about twice a year, usually after coming into contact with exhaust fumes or some other contaminant and then leaving my contacts. At one of my eye exams a few years ago, the doctor showed me an image of all the scratches on my eye from over-use. It was recommended that I take them out 45 minutes before going to bed and wait 45 minutes after I wake up before putting them in. A few months ago I got checked again and my scratches had all healed and I'm good as new. But I imagine there can be long term risks if you aren't careful.

The main disadvantage of over-using contact lenses is that if there are not cleaned and stertised correctly you increase the changes of getting an eye infection.

depends on your eyes - if you have a scratch on your lens the contact could keep irritating it and lead to problems.
also, unless your lens is made to be worn overnight (mine are) they trap gases under the lens which will not allow your eyes to breathe enough and might cause some problems.
