I deleted a program called "Microsoft ActiveSync" from my system yesterday, as it came with a PDA I recently sold on ebay, therefore I no longer required it. However, whenever I start up Internet Explorer, it comes up with a box saying "Please wait while Microsoft Office configures Outlook 2002...", also which I don't require. I have to press "cancel" many times before it goes, and it keeps popping up every time a new internet window/pop-up opens. How do I prevent this from happening?

If you do not use Microsoft Outlook then you could also uninstall it, if you go to Add/Remove Programs and select the Office entry and click change you can remove indiviual components of Office, leaving the likes of Word or Excel still installed.

I have also had experiences where the name of the application is incorrect when the dialog box comes up saying Windows is configuring this application, as it can just relate to a core component of Office which affects all aplications within Office, but Windows has to choose one to display.

My best advice is to let it run it's course and see if it goes away, (it may ask for a CD during the process), it is probably just making changes for the fact that ActiveSync is missing and won't bother you again, if not try to uninstall Outlook, worst case uninstall the whole of Office and install it again, without the Outlook component

The easiest would be to run the Office installation program and select 'repair installation'. This will reload any files you may have deleted when uninstalling the ActiveSync application.
