I only wear socks with sandals if I don't want to wear closed shoes, but yet my toes aren't all that cute-chipped toe nail etc. Or, because I want to, and it's comfortable.

While living in Europe and Washington state everyone seemed to wear socks with sandals. This was funky to me but eventually I started wearing them too. I guess you would have to live there for a while to understand. It is like this. You start off the day with it being nippy. Then the day turns a bit warm and if your in Germany or Washington then you are always near a stream or lake because they are so abundant. You slip off the socks and wade. You may have to put your socks back on to warm them or you may be able to leave them off. Remember, Washington has a huge German culture and in Germany Birkenstock are a way of life for most people who care about their feet. Another point is that most living in these two areas of the world do a lot more walking then in most places in the U.S. Except for the beach.

That's my answer and I'm sticking to it!!!

i wear what i want to as long as it is decent and i am not bound by the fickle, arbitrary rules of 'acceptable' fashion. i wear sandals in winter so i need my socks and in the summer i wear socks with the toes cut out so my feet won't sweat.
do i care if it looks weird? no, and neither should you.

i once wore socks with my sandals because

sandals is the only footwear i brought on a mission trip, and i had to put on socks to keep me warm in the plane.

Unless you have a disease don't do it, it is nerd-o-rama in the USA to do so.
