Why do Christians feel it is their right to deny homosexuals a legal institution like marriage? What happened to the separation of church and state? Why be so hateful when Jesus preached love and tolerance?

Since when have we turned to Jesus to create LAW?

What's next? A form of Christian Law? Like the Muslims have Sharia Law?

Remember for all of you that say marriage is between a man and a woman because it always has been. People believed the world was flat, but it doesn't make it right.

Jesus also spoke negatively about killing. So are all the troops serving in Iraq damned as well?

You can't cherry pick which parts of the bible you are going to support.

It's where they derive their power. Take away their power, and what are they, but frightened lambs? They will tell you that God said it was evil, but the Bible was written by man. Then they will tell you Jesus was a man, and he said it's evil. How would we know? His words were not written down till long after his death. As a last resort, they will tell you marriage is a religious institution, or " who cares, they can 'Mock' a religious ceremony if they want" but they always assume Christianity is the ONLY faith that had marriage. Every faith and culture had marriage, and many of THOSE allowed same sex marriage. And to those who say "who cares, nobody is stopping them from performing a ceremony on their own" And "Why overturn thousands of years of legislature just to 'rock the boat" It's not the ceremony they want, it's being recognized by the government as a legitimate couple. Gay couples get none of the civil benefits straights do. They have to pay to change their names. They cant adopt in most states. If one of them is severely injured the other cant be at their bedside when it's "Family members only" All the little rights we take for granted, they're just wanting to be let in. Let's stow the hate for a while okay?

Homosexuals have been having mock wedding ceremonies for decades, they make wills which allows them to leave their possessions to whomever they want. They can do almost everything people who are recognized by the government as being married can do, if they are intelligent and have a good lawyer.

The question should be why does the government recognize partnerships at all? They don't care who my best friend is, they don't care who you share your rent with, the only time the government cares who you spend your rime with is when it benefits society, and thus the tax payer as in a business partnership or when it damages society, as in gangs.

According to social science children do better when they are raised with both a mother and a father. Go to any prison, mental institution, or drug rehab center and poll the people there. A huge portion of the people in the place will tell you they were raised without one of there birth parents. This has been tested over and over again, children do better with both a mother and a father.
When the child doesn't have both the chances increase that the child will not finish school, will get addicted to drugs, will commit a crime. And when this happened the government, and thus society pays.
So the government has allot of interest into making sure that children are raised in a kind of family that they will thrive in.

I know you are probably thinking that any two people in love will do
but contrary to what the feminist say men and woman are different, children need the advantage of having those differences when they are being raised.

So why should the government care if two homosexuals get married? They would not care if your partner were just your room mate that you share the rent with, so why should they care if you are having sex with your room mate?

This isn't about hate, I have had friends that were homosexuals, in my wilder days before I became a Christian I even partied with many homosexuals.

Jesus said Matt. 19:4-6 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

Marriage was for a man and wife, not for 2 men and not for 2 woman.

I think those rights are given to us by the same laws that give the legal institution to homosexuals. We have the right, the same as anyone else, to our own opinions, and to stand up for what we believe in. Church and state? Do you think this is a church and state issue. Not everyone in the church believes homosexual marriages are wrong nor does everyone in the state believe they are right. This is a moral and social issue and everyone should have a voice in it.

I fully support equal protection under the law. That said, marriage, so called, had been a religious sacrament for centuries before the state got involved. The mistake was in the state's use of the term marriage. If it were up to me, the states would quit issuing "marriage licenses" and issue all couples certificates of civil or legal union. Then, if churches wish to "marry" the couple, they can or not according to their beliefs. Under the law all couples would have the same status and that is what is important.

Yes, Jesus preached love but was not tolerant in all issues. He did not say homosexuality is ok. Christians say its wrong according to his teachings not because they are hateful. Gays can get married in the Netherlands which is a Christian country.

If you are going to use the bible then you should know that the bible also said that they should be put to death. Yes' Jesus tought love and tolerance. But he also tought that marriage is the union of a man and woman. If you are going to use the bible know what you are talking about. P.S. I'm not a christian. I just know right from wrong.

You're using the words hateful, love, and tolerance in a manner that is completely out of context. You've created strawman opponents, and as a result, you'll have a very hard time really understanding the reasons behind people's actions.

Because they fear change will throw off their hierarchy. Its sad, but very true about church and state, they like to tell you its separate but we all know its not. It would be nice if they let people who love each other have all the rights that others are given.

I believe it's because they see it as a slippery slope where if we allow it, what's next marrying animals? children?

What's really funny is this line of bad reasoning can come from the union of man and woman too if you're consistent.

It's silly to me. I don't care what people do as long as no one gets hurt.
