I have studied the troubles in the middle east and it would be arrogant and innacurate to attribute all the troubles to the muslim religion. Unfortunately the atrocities that have been commited in the middle east can not be fixed within a year or two i beleive these poor people have been at war or under occupation for centuries and in my opinion it is mens greed of the rich land historically, biblically and financially that will see the the middle east go form one war to another civil or otherwise.

Can you tell us exactly what you are scared of. The muslim religion is about peace. Islam means PEACE. There are some people who give it a VERY bad name but if you look into the actuall true religion then you will see different. Death penalty is not barbaric it was practiced in the uk upto the early 60's. If we were to look at the state of the prisons today, the death penalty would be a good idea.
Most muslims are happy following the law of this land, just because a few muslims want to set out islamic law does not mean that all muslims do. Most are happy living here.

While I have no problem living with Muslims who are happy to co-exist and contribute positively to our society - I have a huge problem with extremists who will operate beyond the democratic means available to them in this and other democracies.

Sadly these people are in our country and are at this moment planning to perpetrate the next atrocity, so I agree with Baz that this is something to be very aware of.

Having lived in an Islamic country I would have no wish to see this nation Islamicised through either democratic or any other means. Justice was meted out in a brutal manner and often was extremely biased against those who were not Muslims. I had to operate covertly as a Christian, smuggle in my necessary equipment and smuggle it round the country in order to support believers there who were both expats and in our armed forces because the strict Islamic law knew nothing of freedom of religion. I met Muslims who had converted to Christianity who if they had been discovered would have been executed or murdered for following their conscience. No thank you this is not something I want in my country.

I believe we need to be very much aware of the threats caused by Islamicists, whether they are violent or not. Our liberal establishment has done its best to remove our Christian social structure and has used multiculturalism and unfettered immigration as a tool in this. Sadly the British people have become spiritually blinded and abandoned the Christian faith and so a cultural vacuum has been created and guess what now is filling it. We are now paying the price as a result - the only good thing is that if Islam gets the upper hand here the first to go will be the very liberals who gave this faith its foothold and public influence that is way out of proportion to that which it deserves.

Baz you say "we live in a democracy so no death threats please" when did that ever bother Islamic extremists.

First of all, I must point out that I am a muslim and secondly, yes you are right in most cases Islam seems to be a threat to democracy. The extremists are trying to bring about islamic state not only in your country( I find that idea very removed from reality)),but in the countries where are mostly populated by muslims,e.g,Turkey. (I am a Turk).Believe me Sunnis and Shiites are killing each other just because the invaders(sorry to say so) want them to do that, so they won't be able to get united to stand against American and British forces. As I said,in most cases islam is a threat and even it is somewhat barbaric, but the thing is that powerful countries are fuelling the islamic sense and radicalism by doing unfair commitments, such as invading Iraq,Afghanistan without any legitimate reason(just for oil) and killing so many innocent people, torturing men and women in prisons there.Remember,Usame bin Ladin and Saddam were created by America for its own benefits.
Remain entitled to your idea but please do not ignore these points.

I am not frightened of the religion - I am frightened of the extremists. There are extremists in every religion. There are also rapists, paedophiles, serial killers in the World - basically, there are bad people in every race/culture/religion - you cannot escape from the reality that some people are just evil.
I do not blame you for being scared of the extremists my lovely but it is important to remember that the majority of muslims are peaceful people - I have a lot of muslim friends and they are one of the best friends I could ever hope for. The sunnis and the shiites are only blowing each other in Iraq but this is not because of their religion - this is because both of them want to be in charge of the government in Iraq and both have different views of what the law should be.
I am a Christian Iraqi living in the UK and members of my family have been killed in Iraq by muslim bombers yet I still don't hate every muslim.
Don't forget - America also has the death penalty - sure it may not be hanging, but the electric chair is not a nice way to be killed is it, well, is there even a nice way of being killed?
I agree that the ones that want the laws of Britain to be changed should go live in an Islamic country that suits their wishes but of course I don't want every muslim to go home, a lot of them have been born here and they consider the UK their homes and they just want to be accepted as a normal Bristish citizen and I fully accept them.

It is not the religion that's at fault but stupid and ignorant extremists.
No religion suggests the above, they are all based on the same thing. The extremists cannot interpret anything as they are thick, ignorant bigots.
I am "A" religious and have both Muslim and Christian friends and basically there is no difference in their philosophy.
The people you are talking about however should comply with the culture of the land they choose to live in, therefore, as for example, I, a beer drinker, goes to a Muslim country he cannot drink beer, then, conversely, to have a bandage on your head riding a motorbike before having an accident should also not be allowed in a western country. Nor should deliberately concealing your face, putting shop names up in gibberish only, using their race to hide from authority and so forth.

Even as an agnostic who's considered atheism, I believe that nobody should be "afraid" of any religion. If somebody has their own religion, and can follow their beliefs without hurting another in a process, then I respect their religion no matter what it is. Ultimately, the only people I believe should be feared are those who believe that their religion is the only way to go and tries to punish others as a result. We have seen this over history and it has always had violent confrontations as a result. Any person who is an extremist in their religion I believe is one to be feared. Ultimately I believe there are good people in every religion, and extremists in every religion, so I tend to perceive them in my mind equally and don't judge just based on that.

Islam is a religion not a culture, Iraq was run by a dictator who had no interest in promoting religion because the he wanted and had all the power for himself. Israel gets a lot of problems because they are an islamic country but most laws have nothing to do with Islam much in the same way as christiany doesn't really have that great a basis in UK government.

You are entitled to your own opinion, as am I. Personally, I don't feel the religion is what you need to fear. You need to be afraid of people who distort Islam for their own agenda- ie extremists. If you research Islam you will find that there are billions of peaceful Muslims who live quiet, clean and honest lives. Most of what you are commenting about are cultural practices in a few countries and are not typical.

So are you going to send all the American Muslims who were born here and the American Muslims who reverted to Islam after 9/11 to the desert because they are all as you put it "extremists"? Please explain how that is fair? I as an American reverted Muslim woman who was born in the USA am offended by your statement. I personally hope and pray that Britian becomes a Muslim country. The sunnis and shiites are killing each other for political reasons and yes Shiites are hard to deal with because of their customs. If you think all Muslims including reverts in America like myslef and American Muslims who were born here should go back to the desert than whites should go back to Europe since they don't technically belong here either. The Native Americans were here thousands of years before whites came and took over the New World.
