allow of times people think they can make it across before the train reaches them and then something happens to change this and then it is too late to correct their mistake.

Some are due to vehicles trying to cross tracks around the closed gates, some are due to no where to move to when train suddenly appears (such as a trestle, bridge), people think they will hear it ahead of time and get out of the way. Footwear or clothing caught in track or switch.

they dont relize how fast the train is going and it takes
a train at least a mile to stop.
if people were not in a hurry and they would wait and watch the train
go by it usally only takes say up to 5 mintues (maybe a llttte less
depending on train) to let the train go by

well a freind of mine died a couple of years back due to this, people were saying it was suicide but they didnt know him, i believe that he didnt see or hear the train due to 1. the sun was very intense as we went past at the same time the next day, an 2. he would of been playing really loud music.
