You have to ask (or lead the label), "Kingfish" is used as the vernacular name of a variety of fish and in reality is not the name of a spieces of fish.
Because of the potential for confusion, "kingfish" is not used as an official common name by either the AFS or the FAO.

If you're in a restaurant they usually tell you what kind of fish it is. Or a buffet; there's probably a sign or someone to tell you. There's always someone you can ask.

My refined palate can tell the difference but to others it may not be so obvious. It depends on if you have a sensitive palate I suppose.
