I think experience should be your guide here.
You should also guage how hard you plan on running. Generally, for me, if I am racing 5 miles, I like to eat a small bowl of cream or wheat or oatmeal a good 2 to 2.5 hours before race time. Perhaps I'll sip on a little gatorade but I like to run on a near empty stomach when I am racing.
If it is a training run, I'll use a bit more food. Perhaps a banana or power bar 30 minutes before I take off.
The bottom line, is you want to have some glucose in your body but you don't want to have stomach distress in the middle of your run.
As you get more experience, you'll probably be able to make a smart decision for yourself.
Nice time on your 10K, by the way...
Good luck.

Everybody is different, so relay in you experience. It is a trial and error question.
Most people will have some carbohydrates some two hours before a race. The kind and amount of them is also a personal choice.
Also some water or isotonic drink will help to keep hydration levels properly. You do not need to much, but good quality.
Weather is also a factor to take into consideration, humidity, heat, etc.
Again your own experience will guide you the best.
Have a good time and make a good time in your run!

I assume that you're doing a 5-mile race? I would stick to what has worked for you in the 10k. Personally, I like a lite breakfat (banana & oatbran) along with 1/2 cup of coffee. I usually try to have this 2 hours before race time. If I get hungry before the start, I may eat something easy on the stomach like a Gu Gel or PowerBar.
Again, go with what has worked for you in the past. If you have some time, experiment on your training runs. On marathon training runs, I usually experiment with various flavor energy gels to see which one I like the best...it's best not to try anything new on race day. Best of luck in your running!

salad stays in the system for ages i find. For me a banana about and hour before and water.
If you did 10k you should know this. Also before a race the best breakfast is a bagel with jam on it 2 hours before, it did fine for me. That is a great time for a 10k.

the basic rule is 15 - 20 minutes warm up = stretching ( legs especially ) . have some honey before your run ( hehe dont laugh, it true ) it gives u energy ( or have u heard of "helwa" ? you can buy this in some middle eastern/indian grocery stores . ) and then enjoy your run...your metabolism will be shooting to the roofs after your run, so if you eat after your run ( something like the time span from when you stopped running , till an hour/an hour and half after ur run ) its best time to eat something =) if you eat before, give an hour or 2 after your meal before you start running. hope it helps
