A 'hot pot' is still a UK favourite, and it varies depending on taste. Place into your slow cooker a lean stewing steak suitably chopped. Peel your small potatoes, some baby parsnip, carrots, an onion, broccoli and some button mushrooms. Pour in 2 pints of water (or a suitable volume for your cooker) plus two crushed OXO's, one veg green and the other beef. Cook very slowly for at least 4 hours. Yummy!

I have made steak and kidney "pudding" in mine. Cook the steak, kidney, onions and stock for a few hours, then roll out some suet pastry, 4oz self raising flourr, 2oz suet, salt, pepper and water mixed together. Cover the casserole with the suet pastry and cook for another hour or two. Yummy and warming on a winters day. Any kind of casserole will work and you can roast joints until they fall to bits!!

Stews and soups are good in a slow cooker, i made a veggie soup this morning with onions, cabbage, carrot, potato and stock cube and few herbs then blitzed it with a hand blender and it was very tasty and healthy. I also like to cook a small joint of pork in the slow cooker on a bed of onions and leave it too cook for 6 - 8 hours then take out the pork discard water and onions and shred pork (it should just tear apart) and return to slow cooker with favourite BBQ sauce and cook for 3 hours more, serve with rice. Also large gammon joints are nice done in slow cooker just cover with water and leave to cook all day i have left one in for 12 hours before and meat is so soft and tasty, yum. Also things like spag bol and mince onions and veggies in gravy to serve with mash are good. Hope this helps x.

I cook my bolognase sauce in mine.

I brown the meat off in a pan, then add chopped tinned toms, mixed herbs, fresh basil, worcester sauce, crushed garlic then crumble in a beef stock cube, add salt and pepper to taste and stick in the slow cooker for about three hours.

It's a winner everytime!!

I have used mine to make beef roast, beef stew, barbequed meat and pepper steak. I prefer to use my slow-cooker to make a beef roast as it comes out much more tender than when I put it in the oven. Also any steaks will come out very tender even round steak.

Try a chicken or lamb curry. It's a great invention, to come home to a cooked meal with the bonus of really tender meat as it has cooked slowly...
