the best thing you can do is to go to the tattoo artist you are planning on getting to give your tattoo. because they will be the one tattooing it they will be able to draw what suits your body the best. the most important thing is to chose the right artist for you. don't just walk into any shop on the street. be selective about who you let tattoo you.

We don't expect that our clients are able to draw but when you want something custom, try to be as helpful as possible. We get clients bringing in 5 dfferent dragons because they like the head of two they want combined, the scales of another, the pose of another, etc.

Do your best to research it and then go to an artist who is known for custom work. It may take a lot of research on your part to discover this, but face it, this is your body and something you will treasure for the rest of your life.

Have you done a search on the computer so that you can come up with atleast a rough image of what you want. I think its easier to have some kind of pic of your idea to take to your artist that they can "tweek" to make it what you want, its better than them trying to see what you have in your mind. Although any good artist should be able to draw what you want without visual aides. On Miami Ink, those guys mention about wishing their clients did more research on what they want.
