The story of Lilith is a Jewish tale. I'm a witch and she's a very important lady to me - in fact, she's one of my patrons.
Anyway, her story is this:
When Adam needed a wife, God made her out of dust, like Adam, as his equal. Her name was Lilith. At first Adam was happy, but Lilith refused to submit to him. Sexually, she refused to be recumbent and asserted her right to sexual equality. Adam was offended and asked God to throw Lilith out of the Garden, which God duly did.
Legend has it that Lilith left the Garden and wandered the world, 'corrupting' young girls with desires for an acknowledged sexuality. Some myths credit her with beginning a race of demons (succubi) who visit women in their sleep and bring them erotic dreams. Others suggest that she was the mother of the first vampires.
Although she has long been written out of official Biblical texts, some people (like me) see her as a great female goddess. Lately, some Jewish women have adopted her as a feminist icon.
Hope this helps.

From a Gnostic perspective,
The story of Adam and Eve, biblical or other, appears to be the relationship of what we now call the Ego with the human spirit. It is largely a commentary on human circumstance which is expressed symbolically.
In it's fullness we see the Creator(Ego) born from the Father(Truth) through the Mother(Being) into a state of uncertainty (Chaos). He developes as we do, knowing nothing of where he is or why. Not knowing the Mother or Father, He remains childlike, and grows a focus and desire for the things he forms. he makes Angels and Demons to war with each other for his amusement. when he grows tired of this he creates living things to compete for survival.
All these things occure as the means of which the Father can experience both uncertainty and what uncertainty produces.
To acheive this the Mother reveals Man as an appearition just long enough for the creator to desire his own. However, he is unable make the gangly body move, it was too complex for his mind alone so he leaves it. The Father decends into the man in the form of spirit to comlete the soul (Psyche) and from his concious Comes Eve (mother of Life) to wake him and comfort him in newfound state of fear. With them come the gifts of Knowledge of good and evil (the concience) and Life which frees man from the creators design of consumption ironically though consumption of treefruit. The Creator, who has no clue where the woman or the trees came from, only understands that he is powerless against them. so he works around them using fearfull untruth to disuade man from all three. when the serpant (wisdom) corrects the untruth, it leads to man understanding of morality and the awareness that the creator is more selfish than benevolent. the Creator sees that he is not the God he thought he was and throws a tantrum, denying mans his gift of life and ultimately there freedom from consumption. however as a result the creator in confined to the mind of Man so that at the end of consumption both man and creator return to the Father and the Fathers goals are achieved.
Orthodox thought holds that the creator is the True God and interprets the story accordingly. The Bible becomes a history of the Creator's influence on humanity.
Wiccan Thought follows the Orthodox view that the creator is benevolent rather than spitefull and associates the creators persona with Adam. The figure of Lillith reflects the way the Mother is percieved in Wicca and attempts to liberate the feminin divine with they're unique take on orthdox creation.
The Bible however has two distinct Mother references, one for both creation scematics.
There are also other Unorthodox Jewish texts that depict the devil's coming to be as a result of an Angel who refuses to bow to Adam which in a way parallels the Lillith version.
Lillith is also identified by some spiritualists as being guardian of the realm of progressive thought.
Hope that helps

From what I know Lilith was not thrown out of the Garden but instead left of her own freewill by speaking the true name of god and settled near the red-sea and created demons one of the main points about her is because she left Lilith is not subject to and is thus free from original sin becuase she did not eat from the tree nor is she a child of adam or eve
