You can give it a wipe down with a warm wet cloth anytime if it gets dirty. Be careful if you put it in the sink that it doesn't jump and hurt itself.

They don't need a full bath very often, unless they get into something (in my experience, this is a definite possibility with puppies...). You can give them one around 8 weeks but only a bit of water and not hot. Use the same as you would for a newborn baby. Very mild puppy shampoo or baby shampoo, lukewarm water up to their ankles. If it's the first time, keep your hands on your puppy at all times and reassure it if it seems scared or is trying to jump out. My puppy liked to splash a bit (a lab) and play with the wash cloth.

Puppies really like to shake and rub themselves dry (preferably on your furniture and clothes) so make sure you have some towels ready to wrap the pup and pat it dry.

Once the dog is older, it only needs a bath once or twice a year. My dog goes swimming a lot in the summer so I just bath her once in the winter.

Why would you want to? Unless the puppy is really stinky, it's far better just to get it used to being groomed. Much depends on the breed & coat type. You can bath a puppy at any age after it's weaned. Before that, Mum will do all the washing necessary. If you do bath it, just make sure it's kept warm & out of draughts until it is thoroughly dry. Use a very mild puppy shampoo.

My vet advised not to wash a puppy too soon unless they have soiled themselves and you need to get them clean. She also recommended a puppy shampoo, as puppy's skin is very delicate and it dries out very easily, causing them to scratch and itch. I have a 10 week old lab, so these were the questions that I had asked also. Eventually you can bathe them once a month.

As you can see from the picture of my puppy he is cream in colour so he has to be kept clean i use dog wipes most of the time but he has had a bath when he was 10wks but remember flea control that you put on the back of the neck doesn't work as well when you bath them so i give mine a bath 2 days before his next treatment this works, its best to start them off quite young and then they will enjoy it through their lives.I also have another dog who is 13yrs and she loves having a bath.one more thing they don't like water over their heads so use a sponge for their faces.

PUPPY ASKER TO THE RESCUE!!!!!
Hi, I know this might sound strange BUT really you should not give your pup a bath until he or she is 6months old and when the time does come to give a bath make sure you get everything prepared make sure the bathroom is nice and warm draw the baby a warm not cold bath and not too high of water you can get the pup shampoo at your vet or at WALMART whichever you prefer BUT make sure you also buy conditioner for that they need lots and lots of conditioner for their skin to keep it from not drying out. Wash your baby rinse with the wt from your running water and then apply the conditioner onto him or her and do the samr thing afterwards get a towel 2 towels try to get all the access wt off from him and then blow dry him he or she may be scared at first but since he is a baby he will get use to it just tell him that it is ok and everything will be fine and make sure you talk to him throughout the whole blow drying thing you will see later on as you keep doing this he might end up really enjoying it my one is 3 yrs old and he falls asleep now when I blow dry him at first he hated it BUT he has to stay CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN also make sure that you don't over wash him actually I was doing the wrong thing I would bathe mine once a month until my vet told me that was wayyyyyyyyy to much and that I was taking all the oils out of their skin drying their skin up my vet said you should only bathe your dogs 3x yearly but we all know that dogs get stinky from the rain and what not so the time you don't bathe them there is a spray that you can get from your vet and it is for your dogs and it smells like FLOWERS you mist it over their fur and brush their hair it smells WONDEFUL well THE BEST OF LUCK TO YOU AND YOUR NEW PUP

my puppy was about 4 months old when i first washed him and i used to wash him every 4 weeks. i doesn't hurt to give your pup a wash now and again but my vet told me you really don't need to as it will wash away all their natural oils. now i wash him only once every 6 months and you can buy doggie freshen up wipes for in between. giving your pup a brush every day will keep his coat clean and glossy as well, and he'll enjoy it too!
