Is it ok for me to change songs while driving? Surely that's just as distracting as using a mobile phone?

IN most states changing the stereo isn't illegal; wearing headphones is.

This answer is based on living in the UK !
It is in fact illegal to change channel`s on the radio ( unless you have remote on the steering wheel ) it is illegal to drink a can / bottle of pop while driving , it is also illegal to eat food while your driving ,
The only time legally you should remove your hand from the steering wheel is when you are changing the car`s gear`s !

i doubt you read it but the user manual for all personal music players says not to use headphones whilst driving because it affects your awareness.

changing songs is illegal because you'll have to take a hand off the wheel and mess with it and that means you're driving without due care and attention.
