I have an older cat, she's an out door cat too. Every now and then I'll be in my room (which is next to the door that leads out to the garage where my older cat and my other two cats are). Well every now and then I'll hear the door handle jiggle like someones trying to open the door. But I know it's not a person doing it because there's only one way into my garage and that's through the door and it makes a lot of noise when it's being opened. Then everytime I or someone goes to open the door, we look down and there's my older cat is sitting there, meowing like crazy. So... I guess she stretches out and hits the handle with her paws or something. (which obiously she'll never successfully open the door, but she tries.) Is that weird to you?

My cat is about as old as me (I'll be 18 next month!). So I'm guessing she's watched my family open and close that door all these years and she picked it up and studied how it's done and now she's trying to do it? It's cute and funny, but a little weird too at the same time.

No, It isn't weird in the least. DON'T EVER underestimate your cat either. They are VERY smart intelligent animals. If your cat figures this out and there IS a chance it will you can expect the cat in the house when it wants to come in. And the cat sits there and meows as you say because he wants something. Like water or food or just attention. Cats like dogs or other pets need loving and attention. They like to be cuddled, and your cat may be just askig for some love. Give it some.

Well no, cats have lots of reasons to act strange. Maybe she wants attention (she makes someone come all the time), besides she might really want to learn opening the door. Maybe you should leave the door opened? It depends on your cats personality. Try to understand why does she do so... watch her

of course not. my cat does the same thing outside my bedroom door which I mostly keep closed at night due to the noise from the television. she justs wants to be close to her mommy (you).

that or she might be cold outside, hungry, etc.

my cat tries to bang on the door also because in an old place I lived he was pretty successful at opening the door because it was loose. now he can't but he'll sure at least try and get my attention.

NOT AT ALL, clever cat, how about helping by hanging a rope or something that it can grip and then open door? if so you can even teach cat to close door again!!

I'm glad to hear that there is another "weird cat" out there like my Little Buddy. Out of our 5 housecats he's the only one who can twist and jiggle the round doorknob to our bedroom. The funny thing is he only does it when my husband and I are in the process of being..ummm..."frisky." How does he know this??I dunno but he IS the most psychic of our 5 cats.

I don't think that is weird at all. It sounds like your cat is smart. I think cats are very intelligent. I know mine is anyway.

i wouldn't follow st. nino's advice and hang a rope...your cat could accidently hang herself. She just misses you and wants to come in.
