Some Christian religions have baptism at birth, others you chose to be baptized when you are ready to. The right to chose your time of baptism allows you to search within yourself and gain knowledge of the Lord on your own. A decision to follow or stand on your own.

I was baptized at 26. One of my hesitations was the finality of it, an assurance of my own death. The other was acceptance of the Lord God, that I was created from him. Jesus Christ died for my sins and was a going to live worthy enough of Him after my baptism. It was very profound for me. I had been ready for some time before my baptism, but needed extra strength. My niece, who was 9, announced she was ready. I asked her if she minded if I got baptized with her. She welcomed it, so we were baptized together.

some people do not believe is baby baptism. My brother believes that baptism is like a deal between you and God, that said he doesn't feel like a baby can/should be entered into said deal. Its like not being able to enter into a contract with a minor....its non-binding.
