I have a meeting with my local police recruiter, what do I need to know to impress him enough to want to sponser me through the police academy. Please officers, what are some good tips for me to go in there with Tuesday.

What ever you do don't make donut jokes, seriously. If I had a quarter for every donut comment I would have enough money to buy my own franchise. Same goes with Joe Blow pointing to his friend beside him and saying "take him away" or "here's the guy you're looking for" and laughing hysterically like they are the first ones to ever think of saying it.
Ooops... I guess I went on a little rant there, back to your question!

First impression are extremely important, so dress well and make sure you have a your hair cut (no hair touching the collar) or if you are a woman hair pinned up. Use a good firm handshake when you meet him and look him in the eye when you talk to him. Have answers ready for the obvious questions (why do you want to be a police officer, what makes you suitable for the job etc.) You should also have some intelligent questions ready to ask as well. Use yes sir, no sir when applicable and let your enthusiasm show. There is nothing wrong with telling him how important this is to you. Good luck! Donut jokes aside, it is a great job.

Just be confident and speak from your heart. You want to leave a good impression on the guy, so if you're honest with yourself and him, he'll probably be more willing to be a sponsor for you. Be relaxed and talk to him as you would a close family member, with respect, but also with more casual language.
