There is a VERY BIG DIFFERENCE between an air pistol and an airsoft pistol.

An air pistol shoots lead or copper pellets at high velocities (400-900 feet per second.) Air pistols will penetrate most everyday targets, and can even be used for hunting small game (such as birds and squirrels).

An airsoft pistol shoots plastic balls at lower velocities (200-400 feet per second.) Airsoft pistols are designed to penetrate only targets such as paper, and are often shot at people during the sport of airsoft.

Both can be safe if used properly and dangerous if used irresponsibly.
