Just politely tell them that you are hearing impaired and ask them to either speak just a tad slower (if you're deaf and need to read lips) or to speak up just a tad (if you can hear). If anyone has a problem doing either, then you shouldn't need to waste your time on them anyway! :)

tell them nicely that you are deaf. Ask them to either sign or speak slower. If they don't just forget them or ask an interpreter to interpret.
