As a parent I would be very upset if you went into work. That is, if I was your parent and a parent off one of the kiddies you look after. Stop home, get well and then go back to doing a great job!!

I also work in a nursery and have caught tonsillitis twice and both times was off for at least 4 days. You should never put the children at risk from catching illnesses also you shouldn't risk giving it to other members of staff too as then everyone will call in sick!!

last time i had tonsillitis i collapsed in my bank. i had a very high temperature and fainted and knocked myself out. i didn't even have the strength to look after my own children let alone anyone elses. needless to say i had a sick note from my doctor for 1 week. i was then allergic to the antibiotics i was given and threw up every 4 hours when i took them. the doctor changed them to penicillin syrup and i had an allergic reaction to that as well. i came out in a red rash from head to toe! i ended up off work for 2 weeks and was really rough. they even thought i had quinsey! you don't say how severe yours is but even if you have a mild case it's still very infectious and horrible for adults,so imagine how sick a young baby would feel! get yourself to the doctor asap and i'm sure your employer would prefer you stay from those babies until you're well enough to return. take care hun! get well soon. L.

If you have been seen by you gp and explained then I would say they will sign you off work. I have had tonsillitis twice and was signed off work because I was exhausted. It made me really sick and I was drained of all my energy, I wasn't sleeping either. Everyone is different though but you should see you gp for medication and if they don't sign you off work, speak to them before you go in as they may have there own rules.
Good luck xx

yes - you are entitled to sick leave with any illness love - but what worries me is if the tonsilitis is infectious?? If it is you should definately be off work. Go to the docs and get a sick note!

Yes of course you are - in the UK you can self cert for the first 5 days including weekends and then a sick note from the doctor.

You can self cert for 7 days , so you dont even need a doctors note. Or get a doctors note and get the whole week off! Hope you feel better. Just had it myself!

Yes of course, you can easily spread infections to the other children. You will need to sign you self off sick using a self certiciation sick note (your employer should have these) after a week you need a note from your doctor.

Yes and i'm sure many of the babies parents would be annoyed to find you still working knowing this.
