well, what do you want for one? have you gone to a custom tattoo artist? all of my tattoos are custom work and i have just gone to my artist with an idea and a couple of pictures to let him know aspects of it that i like and don't like. every single time i have been amazed with how wonderful the design is and i have never once had to have him change anything. feel free to email me if you need help finding something.

You should start scouting tattoo shops and speaking to the artist any reputable artist will work with you tell him your ideas and he will draw something custom for you then you can have him change bits and soon you have exactly what you want these are the best kind of tattoos getting flash off the walls or out of a magazine is a bummer when you walk down the street and see someone with the same exact tattoo.

What's a "long time"? For example, I've loved body art since I was too young to legally get it. It took nearly a quarter century before I figured out what to do about it.

Personally, I'd look for a theme, some kind of idea that appeals to you - love of country, culture, philosophy, art - something that has more than a passing meaning to you. As important, it should be something that's been with you and likely to stay; ideally, perhaps some epiphany on your character, who you are. it doesn't have to be super deep, but imho the personal connection matters.

Then take that idea and look for art along those lines. Google, friends & here again are good steps at that point.

I know, super-generic answers, but just snagging some art that's "ok, I guess" won't make you happy. Your question is sufficiently non-specific that I think you need to stay in brainstorming mode a little longer, before you move on to the actual art. If nothing else, narrowing the search will get you to the answer faster.

Hope this helps...

Sarah, as I posted with your similar question:

We don't expect that our clients are able to draw but when you want something custom, try to be as helpful as possible. We get clients bringing in 5 dfferent dragons because they like the head of two they want combined, the scales of another, the pose of another, etc.

Do your best to research it and then go to an artist who is known for custom work. It may take a lot of research on your part to discover this, but face it, this is your body and something you will treasure for the rest of your life.

Additional comments: It is not generally a good idea to have anyone other than a tattoo artist do your artwork - some things just don't translate well into tattoos - mostly to do with size and location.

Tattoo artists are really good at working these things out for you. Expect to pay an art deposit. Good luck to you!

You'll know it when you see it. Tattoo artists are just that, artists. Check out some shops, ask about the particular design you want. Somebody out there will whip up just what you are looking for.

I have a tat.. and it took 10 years for me to really put it together.... . rushing into getting one... you might regret it the next day.....

Mine is one that has special meaning to me..........and the next one I am getting also has special meaning .................

I have had it now for about four years.. and never have regretted getting it...

so.. what ever you decide.. make is something that is meaningful to you.......
and take your time there is no rush.. after all they are PERMANENT.

Since you have a design idea in mind.. talk with a tattoo artist,,, and give them your ideas.. many artists like the challenge of creating the perfect design..... more fun and interesting than picking one off a wall chart.. and tracing it on your body.. and coloring in the lines....
happy ink....

You should go to the tattoo studio where you wanted to get the tattoo and talk to them about your ideas and have them create a tattoo for you...

first, answer me this question: WHY do you want a tattoo? if it has a special meaning for you, the design should reflect that. if you just want one cos u think its cool, don't do it. i find it very strange that u say u want one, but u dont know what of. honestly, i have always known what i want on my body, and don't regret any of them, they tell a story.
