When white toothpaste comes out with red and blue stripes why don't all the colours get mixed up inside the tube? What's inside the tube? Are there separate sections containing different coloured toothpaste?

As afar as I am aware the 3 stripes are compressed into the tube and sealed so when you squeeze the tube they will not mix because of the compression and also make up of the substances used if that makes sense. It is like picking up three grapes in one hand. They will not squash because you are applying just enough pressure and if you put them down and release then nine times out of ten they will not move.

30 years ago, I had the same question. I waited until the tube was almost empty and I cut it open to find out.

The way it worked then (and probably still does) is that the red stuff is all collected up at the top of the tube and the loads of white are under it.

When you squeeze the tube, the white is pushed up the tube and pushes a small amount of the red through a collar which is jagged. This causes the white to come out with stripes of red which have been 'filtered' through the jagged collar.

Try it. Cut the thing open!

This is one of the best questions I have ever seen on YA, well I believe the different colors come out of separate tanks in the tube that you squeeze...they are essentially the same toothpaste but are colored differently...thus when squeezed...out comes two colors. One tank lines around the other one and when squeezed..the opening or nozle of the tube separates them into stripes that way.

well the really amazing thing is if you squeeze all the toothpaste out really fast you can see that not only is it stripped but the stripes will spiral as it comes out...how is that done then does whatever that makes it stripped turn around inside as well.
