It is none of their business. I would not answer the question at all. We have something similar to us happen, but it is always a the "are you still with the dad?" I was 17 when I got pregnant, and my boyfriend and I had only been together a couple months. Now we are married and own a home and expecting our second. We worked opposite shifts so when I go grocery shopping without my husband and run into people I know they always seem to ask. I always shove it in there face that I am 20 years old and own a home with the man of my dreams, so yes we are still together and politely end the conversation. Now that we expecting our second the question has moved from "are you still with the dad?" to "do your child have the same father?" It amazes me that people are so rude and why do they care? It is possible for people to be young and in love and raise a family! I would ignore such questions or be a smart *** back to them. My favorite is when my peers who went to college and think that they are something hear that I am doing better then them and I have no education!

Skip the question and move on to the next one. Don't lose any sleep over it. By the way, if you haven't already figured it out, no matter what you ask it seems like you'll always get a few ignorant and hateful answers. Remember everyone is anonymous on the internet so they can really let loose with their stupidity.

If you believe that you can alter the opinions of such persons through the power of your well-reasoned prose, then by all means, give it a shot.
However, I think that most of the truly ridiculous questioners will never even read the responses they generated...sometimes because they are not capable of reading above a second grade level. Also, the religion-based questions are usually pointless to respond to because these zealots have tightly clenched their hearts and minds around their beliefs and will not let go no matter how ridiculous they may be proven to be.
I gotta admit, though, its sometimes fun to try.
Good Luck!

I tend to report the really obnoxious ones to yahoo answers, you know the homophobes, the religious and racially intolerant or the just plain stupid questioners.
Occasionally I will take the twerps on just for fun, depends on my mood.
However there really are some dufuses out there, I think most of them are still ' children' even if their chronological age doesn't belie that fact and they're attention seeking because that's what kids do.

Why do you feel such a strong need to "deal with" other people. Answer the question if you feel so inclined; skip it otherwise. Everyone will survive without your input, I think.
Judging by the wording of your "question", you may have some ignorance of your own to worry about.

Yes I say ignore Lizzybore... as you obviously feel as though YOU certainly know the "meaning of life" ! As for the truely ignorant I think of it as a classroom test or even a job interview, I appreciate you telling me exactly what I want to hear, not what may be on your mind, appropriate or even politically correct ! JUST KIDDING - You just left yourself wide open for that ! take care.

I've been to stupid, I've even had reservations. But the big difference between stupid and genius , is that genius has limits. Since your surrounded and outnumbered by dumbbells, and etc, just relax, they can be entertaining, and nobody enjoys the thought that they could be stupid. We are all stupid, just in different subjects.

I read this answer in an advice column years ago and have used it successfully in the type of situation you describe. And the answer to the offensive question is......... "Why do you ask?"
Your questioner, whether he/she answers or not, becomes exposed.
