Oh, this is an easy one since I just got this surgery done on January 5th.
Ok, heartburn is gone!!!!!!! That is great compared to the other symptoms I'm going to speak about in a bit.
You must stick on a very soft diet for the first two weeks after surgery and then slowly move up to not so soft food. Sometimes you may blow it and feel like food is getting stuck in your throat going down. (that's okay it is just slowly going down don't panic) I jumped up and down when that happened.
For about three weeks, you'll feel like you have a knot on the top of your stomach. This is normal and will go away with time.
You will be out of the hospital the next day, pending everything is going normal.
For about a week after surgery I did take Vicodin at night to fall asleep. It was uncomforatable pain, but not excrusiating.
I had my laparoscopically, so it took about three weeks before my 5 little incisions stopped being sore.
Next, you will have a lot of gas and some bloat! Pick up gas-x. This is because you will not be able to burp for quite awhile. It is not much of a problem eventually. I have less and less gas each day. (Sometimes I have a rough few hours). So, if you drink a lot of carbonated beverages, don't! Don't do it for at least 4 weeks, and even then pour your beverage over ice and let the fizz go out of it for a bit b4 drinking.
Diarrhea....yeah..everyones favorite subject. I had to pick up some pepto bismol after I started eating solids, because it seemed that my food was running through me. (what I mean by that is I had to rush to the bathroom within a few hours of eating) That is temporary and will go away about a month after surgery. Don't worry. It will take awhile to get your digestive system back on track. I still have diarrhea sometimes.
I'm still a little tender in the middle of my stomach, but no pain medicine needed. I'm sure it too will go away eventually.
These are small prices to pay for no heartburn.
Plus, I was back to work 6 days after surgery, but I don't do any lifting at work.
