I'm kind of atheist, I believe in the christian values for my family, and bring my boys up in a christian household, but I struggle with believing whether or not god exists.

I want to cook a meal for the islamic family who live across the road.

I understand halal... sort of.

But would it be seen as acceptable? Are there any religious reasons for them not to accept food for me?

I know the jewish can't eat with me cause they consider it "kosher" but what about islamic people?

I made braised fish topped with jerk shrimp, pasta, and green beans last week for my Muslim friends.

Be aware that in addition to no pork, and no meat or poultry unless it's halal, there should be NO alcohol in the food - not even if it's in small quantities in things like purchased sauces.

If you're not sure, then cook vegetarian - it's really not that difficult, and it does no one any harm to eat vegetarian every so often.

If you're interested, email me and I'll send you the recipe I developed for the fish & shrimp - after the prep work, it only took 15 minutes from start to serving.

Oh, and if you're in the habit of saying a blessing over meals, wait until AFTER to say your thanks, so that your neighbors won't feel uncomfortable.

BTW, what you are doing is the very heart of hospitality, and you're a lovely person for doing so.

You can go to any shop that has the halal sign on it, and purchase your meat from there
( Halal is only for meats, Muslims have a special way when it comes to slaughtering animals).

You can cook a vegetarian Meal or a Fish meal for them, but there is no reason to not accept food from you.

I'm a Muslim.

You can, as long as you know that what halal really is, you can ask if you're not sure. Be sure that your utensils are also halal, if you cooked pork with it once then it's not really halal anymore. Anyways even if you tried your best and think that food is halal, but it may have been haram....somehow...... it's alright, it's not a sin if you honestly don't know.

Ne questions?

Kay thanks bye.

I'll let Muslims answer the main part of your question, but lol, who told you Jewish can't eat with you? My family is Christian and my dad has that Jewish friend since childhood. Every time he comes on a visit to us he not only eats everything we prepare - he even likes everything a lot and always compliments my mum on being such a good cook! So I guess everything depends on what the particular person is like.
