Shouldn't use prayer to ask for something. Get out there and meet people and then, when you find someone worthwhile, say your prayer and give thanks.

Dear Humble Simple Man,
Yes, God always answers prayer - but - often the answer we get is not the answer we want. To ask Him for a "special someone" also means surrendering your will completely - because maybe our Lord would like you to set an example by living your life for Him as a single man. Not every man (or woman) is called to the single life because it is not easy.
As to a time frame, I've found God can't be hurried or put on a schedule. His timing is always perfect, but it never seems so to our impatient hearts Rest assured He knows your innermost desires and only wants the best for you. When, in His perfect knowledge and love, the time is right for your helpmate to enter your life, your prayer will be answered. Years later you will look back and see how He wonderfully and lovingly worked His will as our heavenly Father always does.
Why do I believe prayer works? I speak from personal experience of having my prayers answered over and over again in my 23 years of being a Christian. No request, big or small has gone unanswered - ever.
I hope, and pray, that this will be of help to you. Peace and blessings.

Ummm, how would you know if it worked? Maybe your time frame is different than the next person's.What time frame do YOU give yourself to determine whether it did or didn't? Someone who's been married for 10 or 20 or even 30 years could answer and say "Yes", but what if they end up divorced by this time next year...kinda hard to answer. How will you know if YOUR prayer has truly been answered? How bout you just go with what feels right. Go with your heart, but say a prayer too! Can't hurt.
I hope you find your one and only and that your life is one filled with much love!

There won't be any hard and fast rules about this. God will treat everybody differently, according to his will.
I think you are feeling really impatient about this and wants an immediate response, which is why you are posting this question. But know that God knows the best. If you are praying, he is listening. I've found, though, that sometimes you don't have perspective while you are praying, but years later thank God for not immediately granting your wishes, for when you look back you realise that there was a reason for what happened to you at that stage.
Keep praying, though, and I pray with you that God will send that special one very soon!

Two of my friends swear it did! They are both happily married and have children with the spouse they prayed for. One friend said to be very specific and ask God for what you want. (She wanted an Italian man with a big nose so the other girls wouldn't try to steal him away.) She got what she asked for and has been happily married for over 30 years! Another friend suggest praying for God to send the right person for you and says you will know when they are the one. She and her husband have been married for over 10 years. I think the real key is to choose a person who has qualities that matter in a life long partnership, like loyalty, compassion, sense of humor, stability, sense of adventure, similar interests to you, etc. It is also important to be the type of person others will be interested in. Are you fun to be around or always complaining? Are you a good listener and a true friend? Are you someone you would want to date?!!! Pray, but also be proactive.
